The Clippers finished out the 2023 preseason with a 126-115 loss to the Denver Nuggets at the Toyota Arena in Ontario, CA. Every Clippers’ player except Kawhi Leonard saw playing time and the game served as a final tuneup before the start of the regular season.

Game Notes:

The main story of the game was the play of Norman Powell. Powell’s 2021-2022 debut was cut short due to injury and he only suited up in five games for the Clippers. Now healthy, Powell showed a little preview of what he can bring to the team on a consistent basis. He finished with 34 points on 11-14 shooting in 25 minutes of play. Powell started against the Nuggets but he’ll come off the bench throughout the season. His ability to put pressure on the rim and attack adds another dimension to the Clippers offense.

Moussa Diabate is going to be a solid NBA player. The Clippers have such a deep roster that minutes will not be there for Diabate, who is limited anyway on a two-way contract. He will spend much of the season with the Ontario Clippers. But he has shown flashes of being an active player around the basket on both ends of the floor. And he ended the preseason with an absolute bang against the Nuggets. He caught a pass in transition from Xavier Moon and rose up over Jack White to throw down the dunk of the game. His development in the G League will be something to monitor.

John Wall continued his solid play. He didn’t have the huge game he did against the Wolves, but he was solid in his role. Knocked down some shots and did some playmaking. Tyronn Lue mentioned after the game that he thought he was not sure about who would be starting between Wall and Reggie Jackson but that after the Nuggets game he was even less sure. Wall does bring an added dimension that this team has lacked and he looks like he’s really starting to get his legs under him.

That’s it for the Clippers 2022-2023 preseason. They open the season on Oct. 20 at Crypto.com Arena at 7 PM PST against the Lakers in what is a Lakers home game.
