Game Notes
- The Clippers announced yesterday that Jason Preston, the 33rd overall pick in this summer’s draft, underwent foot surgery and will miss an “extended period of time.” The team indicated there is no timetable for his return. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Preston will miss “a significant portion of the season.” The rookie point guard had yet to play in preseason due to the foot injury, and his prolonged absence may push the Clippers to look for additional ball-handling depth.
- Justise Winslow was not listed on the injury report and may see big minutes for the shorthanded Clippers. The Clippers’ new forward played 25 minutes in Monday night’s preseason opener but missed Wednesday’s contest due to non-COVID illness.
- According to Mavs.com, Dallas stars — not Dallas Stars — Luka Dončić and Kristaps Porzingis will only play in the first half.
- The Mavericks are playing just their second preseason game tonight. Dwight Powell, Dorian Finney-Smith, and Frank Ntilikina were all listed out for rest in their first contest Wednesday, while Trey Burke was listed as a DNP – Coach’s Decision. If that seems weird for a preseason game, The Dallas Morning News reported that Burke was designated to play in an injury- or foul-induced emergency only. According to Mavs.com, Jalen Brunson will fill the emergency role tonight.
