It’s possible he could be lured back into coaching as he is 61 years old, but right now he’s out of the game.

Don’t just blow this idea off. He is a mastermind that is totally off everyone’s radar because Lebron threw him under the bus for TL. He’s got all the poindexter cerebral chops to pull this mess together.

The Clippers had absolutely zero leverage and had to mortgage their entire future. It’s often referenced that the package was for PG and KL, not just PG… and that’s the problem.

With Kawhi on the roster, the Clippers still could have chased a star throughout the summer and at the deadline, with the not-so-bad consolation of SGA and Gallo still being on the team if a deal didn’t get struck. We know that Houston was looking to offload CP3, etc. Plus, even if the Clippers eventually end up trading for George anyway, they wouldn’t have had to give so much up. Kawhi might not care about whether or not the Clippers have a pick in 2025, but that pick is a tradeable asset and having a bare cupboard means the Clippers are at a disadvantage when names like Jrue Holiday come up.

and I wonder if, down deep, KL has any regrets about the trade. If he does, he’ll never admit it. But, I think, he mite have one or two.

Jay has consistently stated that he has no interest in leaving his dream job including several weeks ago when his name yet again circulated in the Sixers rumors. His name has also been thrown out there for openings at the University of Kentucky, UCLA, and the Knicks through the years. He’s built a consistent national title contender for many years, including probably the next several seasons based upon the current roster and an incredible recruiting class. Most NBA coaches don’t last long in jobs. Jay could stay at Villanova for another 15+ years and never have worry about losing his job. The NBA season is long and requires a lot of travel. He likely has already “scratched the itch” of working with NBA players since he is part of USA Basketball. He may even get an opportunity to coach an Olympic team at some point.
