I’m just happy both guys have taken advantage of their opportunities, especially Coffey

I’ve noticed a lot of Coffey’s turnovers are when he’s dribbling around without a plan of action. He’ll get better with that as he gets more reps in the offense.

Similarly with Mann as he gets more experience as a defender his awareness of when screens are coming will develop. He’ll eventually develop maneuvers and little tricks to eliminate getting wiped out of the play on those screens. Effort is certainly there though, which is encouraging.

If Coffey can show consistency on his jumper like he has the last 2 games, I anticipate the Clips will be signing him for the rest of the year pretty soon. He had a bunch of bad turnovers against the Jazz, but dude has basically had 0 practice time w/ the team, so it’s understandable that he’d have issues trying to move the ball around in Lue’s system. I really like him as a long/lanky defender, and he looks like a pretty decent rebounder as well, so all that’s really left is for him to keep hustling and to keep taking/making good shots.

It’s pretty much the same analysis for me regarding Mann, and I love the “psuedo-Beverley” moniker. This is me nitpicking, but I do think he needs to work on his defense when he gets screened. The last couple of games he’s just completely gotten wiped out on screens, and he hustles back to try to block the shot from behind, but elite offensive players (e.g. Harden, Trae Young, Luka, etc.) are gonna use that to get free throws by stopping on purpose and/or jumping backwards into him (…the NBA really needs to look into fixing this from a rules perspective, or at the very least instruct the officials not to call these as defensive fouls). I love Mann’s hustle in getting back into the play, but he needs to 1. get stronger so he can fight through the screens better/faster, and 2. be careful to avoid running over the guy coming off the screen and/or be careful to not touch the shooter’s arms.

Rejoice, fellow Clips fans, the young guys are alright.

Like most young players, Mann and Coffey are bringing such effort and energy to scratch and claw their way into the team’s good graces; doing every little thing imaginable to prove they belong on the court. I think if either of those two young men found a way to develop into a decent shooter they could make the case for nightly minutes. They aren’t there yet, and that’s what ultimately could diminish their chances when everyone is back.
