The Clips and their newly acquired TPE could take on his contract and save the Lakers some luxury tax if he requested to be released.

Although, not sure he’d be that happy coming to a Clips team where he’s probably 3rd string, if the goal is he wants to play. If it’s more that he’s just still not happy with the Lakers front office due to that situation where they promised Drummond a starting spot over him, it could at least get him a fresh start and a bit of a reunion with Ibaka and Kawhi. Always thought Marc would at the very least be a great mentor to Zu. Zu would be shooting 3’s by mid-season.

I also wondered if there was a possibility the Raptors would try and get out of like Boucher’s and someone else on their roster’s deal to try and avoid the tax this season where they’re probably not a contender. I think they’re about $8M over the tax, right in line with the Clips TPE… for what that’s worth.

Of the free agents available, I think Millsap, Biyombo, and Boogie are clearly the best available. I get maybe taking a shot with a young guy in hopes they continue to develop, but it that were the case, then maybe they would’ve just held onto Oturu. They really could plan on bringing a bunch of guys into training camp and hope someone stands out.

Nothing really to get excited about, but if I had to pick a couple of names outta that list, I’d be leaning towards the first two, as they’re reasonably young (Hartenstein is 23 and Bell is 26) and should at least provide some fresh legs when called on.

No rush to join a team and go through training camp. Just join a team sometime mid-season (ie. let’s see who’s good and I’ll go there).

I’d say we need a 4/5 of some sort.

A Millsap if you will.

He can join us and hit it off with Morris Sr!

Joking aside, what can we realistically get?

It seems to me that they’ve finally realized that they’re a small market (re: not a FA destination), so their only hope is to pull an OKC, San Antonio, or Milwaukee – that is, if they actually win some games and have sustained success, then maybe they can attract some FAs for only a 50% higher price than NY or LA, as opposed to the insane markup they need to offer right now. Also I think Rozier and Hayward are good veterans to keep around while they hang around faux contention.

The thing is, if they want to take the next step up (i.e. actual contention), they’re gonna have to make some shrewd/heartless trades (e.g. Clips trading away Blake) and value signings (e.g. Milwaukee signing PJ Tucker). So for example after they know whether or not LaMelo can be the guy, they could trade Hayward, and if they have faith in Bouknight, they could try to find a taker for Rozier – the problem is I have no faith that their FO will actually be able to pull off/recognize a good long-term trade for them because they’ve got MJ breathing down their necks all the time.

Booker obviously plays with emotion which makes me hate even more, but Boston in SL looked way more engaged then he did in college for whatever reason, even though SL is a super small sample size.

You guys know I’m big on Preston !

Keon I have no clue except that like the other rookies he’s gonna need some time!

I think shroeder might have some attitude or personality problem for most teams that got leaked.
Along with prolly trying to force his way into a starters role somewhere!

MJ hasn’t been the greatest gm/scout for talent, and making the wrong moves at the wrong time can easily hold a young team back, need mostly good decisions luck and health as we’ve all witnessed from the 06 clippers, to lob city till now.
If it was me personally I would of firesaled everything down to the bathroom sink (holding lamelo)
And tried to pair lamelo with other top lottery picks that have a better chance of being good and great then hoping free agents come/and extending question mark players like rozier/haywerd and banking on them to get it done and impressing la melo. However impressing/keeping lamelo long term gonna be a hard task with lamelo being part of the Ball family.
Lonzo was restricted also one of the best pieces along with ingrim in the AD trade!
Lonzo wanted out while being restricted, how the hell would the hornets be able to keep lamelo?

And with young guys in Ball and previously Graham in the fold, I didn’t think they would value Rozier. Obviously with Graham being moved, they were in on Rozier, and think he can play with Ball.

I think Rozier got a bit underrated because he got overpaid last time. He’s still a very good scorer and pretty efficient as well, but this contract is even more crazy. Dennis Schroder must be punching the air right now. Still didn’t think Schroder was going to get $80M+ but even after a bad season, I thought there would be someone that would give him $50M+.
