He got a scoring title. Next step is MVP. And even that is just a stepping stone on the way to be debatable against SOME of these guys (less than half the list). We often forget that the top20 were f…ing great for a very long time. Granted, Luka has been for five years but that just gets you a yawn from the top20

Can we do something like trade Norm/Tucker/Bones/Russ (if he opts in) to the Jazz for Collins? I believe this gets us under the 2nd apron (if we pay PG and Harden below 80 million) as well so now we have the TPMLE to get a backup 4 or maybe CP3. The Jazz get off Collins 3rd year money, Bones is a prospect, Norm should have some value in a flip at the deadline and Russ & Tucker are additional buyout or expiring deals for them to turn into more assets.

SG – PG/Mann
PG – Harden/CP3?
C – Zubac/Plumlee/Theis
PF – Collins/Brown
SF – Kawhi/Coffey

Would only have a need for a more proven backup 4 then. In the playoffs when you go 8 deep we have a good starting lineup with a mid (Mann), big (Plumlee/Theis) and small (CP3).

What is it… 75% PG and Harden can play 20 something games? Kawhi is the one who’s probably 25% of playing 20 something games. That’s 14% they can make it through a full playoff stretch.

If they didn’t choke versus the Nuggets that year up 3-1 they probably would’ve beat the Lakers and Heat that year. That was definitely their best year.

2021 Kawhi suffered a serious injury before the WCF, that was another year we had a legit chance.

They definitely have a better chance than 0 of winning IF healthy. If you make the trades above, their odds of winning go down from whatever that number is closer to 0.

It might be 1 in a 100 all these old guys stay healthy at the same time. I’m looking at the 2011 Mavericks as inspiration for a team of veterans somehow putting it together and pulling it off. But at least they have the talent level to win and play at a high level. We have some tradable guys in the rotation who can be traded for better fits (PF mainly).

There’s no reason to get under the cap, but hitting the 2nd apron really limits a team’s options for improving.

The problem with (over)paying PG and Harden is not next year, but the 2-3-4 years after when they have even further declined and we are simultaneously up against the wall/ 2nd apron. At that point, they would also get almost nothing back in trades. The future pain might be worth it if you are a true title contender now, but I don’t think that we are.

I’m not sure how much future cap increases might make things easier, maybe they would.
