He’s similarly undersized at 6’8″ but my perspective on him is that he’s stronger/more explosive finishing at the rim and a more aggressive rebounder, where Wenyen is a little more agile on the perimeter on both ends and a more comfortable three-point shooter (Wright actually will step out to take about 1 per game in both college and the g-league, and hits it at a good rate, but it’s a bigger part of Wenyen’s game to get up a higher volume of 3PA).

I was interested in Wright on his 10-day and would like to see him down the road if the Clippers keep being forced to make these types of call-ups.

However, I wouldn’t put too much stock in the “called up first” thing. Moses and Wenyen got 10-day deals on the same day (December 21st), and Moses is the local guy who did SL/training camp/g-league in the Clippers system, while Gabriel is a veteran free agent. There have been like a million dudes called up for these little replacement deals and lots of teams’ process seem to be “yeah, let’s just grab a guy at that position from our g-league team.” Wright and Moon both just came from the relevant position on ACCO, Ennis and Wright both signed with LAC a right after playing against LAC on hardship deals for Brooklyn, and Andrew Greif said he thinks LAC would have initially signed Giles over Wright if Giles weren’t injured right now.

If you’re shooting for upside, I do think Gabriel and Moses Wright would be the one’s I would want to get a longer look at. I mean there is a reason why Wright was the first call up, and he’s been very good in the G-league. I think it’s a bit early to anoint Gabriel as the highest upside big when we haven’t gotten a chance to see Wright, but I do like what I’ve seen of Gabriel in one game. An athletic big who MAYBE could handle a switch onto guards (Gabriel didn’t have the best success on Harden, but that’s not really a fair measure of success).

I do wonder if there might be some other “upside” SFs the front office has their eyes on. Just feels like with PG missing significant time, and a lot of the rest of the roster being a bit undersized at the 3, a SF could be more of use.

Would be tough to give up on Scrubb already, but I definitely see it hard to keep Scrubb and Boston on the roster long term and Boston has shown more flashes of being a legitimate NBA rotation player. Scrubb is looking like he could stick probably at the end of a bench of an NBA team that needs guard depth like the Clips had him last season, but I feel like I’ve seen a decent amount of Scrubb and in all honesty, he’s probably a replaceable level player.

But when Moon had it going for that stretch where he was blowing by people and sticking jumpers I was thinking to myself “that’s the kind of guy that our opponents always seem to have that kill us.” I love scrub because of his personal story but if we were to swap out for Gabriel I wouldn’t freak out. We are kind of thin at the true 4 position.

But, I would bet that any situation where Gabriel is needed as a PF/C (behind Morris/Batum/Winslow/Coffey and Zubac/Hartenstein/Ibaka/Winslow) would be one where the team is able to get a hardship exception to bring him in again (or Wright, or Giles).

You could also say the same about Scrubb (Jackson/Bledsoe playing together covers SG minutes, plus Kennard/Mann/George/Boston/Coffey/Keon/Kawhi at SG/SF), but the tiebreaker for then becomes age/contract status–Scrubb is 21 and eligible to stay in his two-way slot next season, while Gabriel is 24 and in his final year of two-way eligibility.

I’m actually not sold on our depth at PF because Batum and MM are both older guys and I don’t think Serge at PF is really viable. I feel like we have good depth at G/SF w/ Mann, Luke, KJ, Boston, PG13 and Kawhi (whenever they come back).

Agree w/ Lucas though – as great as it was seeing these guys contribute to our glorious win over Brooklyn, there just isn’t space on the roster, barring a trade.
