We’ve had a lot of history of assistants getting HC jobs from other teams. Gentry , ty Lou , cassell getting interviews etc .
It’s almost like the backup center position during lob city era. Were cole Aldrich , speights among others always knew the clippers were a stepping stone to bigger contract after playing for us.

I also think that in many fields, but especially in a tight-knit industry like the NBA that has 30 small (in terms of basketball operations personnel staff size, not in terms of revenue) companies, it can be an important component of professional development to work in multiple competing companies and get a feel for sort of industry practices outside of the organization you came up in. He’ll likely always have a job with Spoelstra and the Heat; the Clippers expand his networking possibilities. Making a good impression on Frank, Redden, Winger, Lue, and others–potentially Billups, Atkinson, Drew?–could help him get one of the jobs he didn’t get this summer. Redden and Winger could both get GM jobs elsewhere in the next few years. Billups has been mentioned for GM jobs. Atkinson and Drew have both been HC before and could take him to a 3rd org someday. Once we have a complete picture of this year’s staff, fast forward 5 years and the coaches/FO members will likely be spread among a half-dozen teams.

The team can probably start practicing together, but they cannot start practicing with the new coaching staff necessarily (Lucas, please correct me if I am wrong here) – Trez, JaMychal, Morris, Reggie are all either free agents or impending free agents so I don’t think they could participate in sanctioned team practices with the coaching staff. I think they can practice with each other as players.
