Clippers News and Analysis Sat, 23 Oct 2021 10:27:09 +0000 hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=5.3.20 By: Greek_Clippers_Fan https://213hoops.com/predicting-western-conference-2021-2022-standings/#comment-29199 Sat, 23 Oct 2021 10:27:09 +0000 https://213hoops.com/?p=10555#comment-29199 I am going with this:

  1. Jazz (range 1-3)
  2. Nuggets (range 2-5)
  3. Warriors (range 3-6)
  4. Suns (range 2-6)
  5. Clippers (range 5-7)
  6. Portland (range 5-8)
  7. Lakers (range 4-8)
  8. Mavericks (range 6-9)
  9. Timberwolves (range 8-10)
  10. Grizzlies (range 7-11)
  11. Spurs (range 10-12)
  12. Kings (range 9-13)
  13. Pelicans (range 9-13)
  14. Rockets (range 12-15)
  15. Thunder (range 14-15)

Trusting my instincts on this, not based on popular opinion:

Jazz, Nuggets, Warriors, Suns, Clippers will be good and cohesive TEAMS.
Depending on injuries and players getting back from injuries we will see how that plays out.

Klay, Jamal, Kawhi = the wild factors.

I don’t think Suns will be healthy (CP3) all year and the Ayton issue will intoduce some wobbles.

Portland will be better than last year but not sure if they have what it takes to go higher up.

I really don’t like what the Lakers did and I think that they will struggle. Frank Vogel is also running out of allies so I wouldn’t be surprised if there is a change there at the first sign of trouble.

Mavs with JK will not be that good even though they seem healthier and got some peripheral moves.

I think the Wolves will be better than people think, possibly the spurs and the rockets.

Grizzlies could shoot up but I doubt they can be top 6.

Our Clippers will have more games on the line but I think we can remain competitive (without Kawhi) and build character. Expect better clutch numbers than last year.
5th to 7th is our range and I choose to be an optimist.

My HOT TAKE:

Kawhi comes back at some point, we make the NBA finals for the first time against the Bucks. My crystal ball has not yet revealed the outcome.

(Stated here for the first time, 23/10/2021)

Go Clippers!

They are old and slow and AD looks like a degenerating Amare Stoudamire and Lebron looks like a 34 year old Melo. Westbrook is a dinosaur and I’m one of the few people here who loves him. The Jedi mind tricks by not only the media but the “consensus” social media on this item should give us all pause with regard to what we’re supposed to believe anymore across a spectrum of issues…. Luka looks fat and is being a bitch now. Their coach sucks. So let’s move the clippers up two notches to #5 now ok? To me the warriors plus a healthy Klay or Clippers plus a healthy Kawhi are tops to come out of the West. BIG caveats but I’ll stand by them.

Really enjoyed watching him play. That playing ability mite just translate to his new gig. But, if the blazers under perform, fans will jump him.

I’m a bit low on the Trailblazers. Just feels like the Clips did at the end of the Lob City era. Hopefully they can maintain chemistry better than the Clips, but starting to feel stale. I really have no idea how Chauncey will be as a first time head coach. I mean as a broadcaster, I was not that impressed. Hard to get a feel for his impact on the team last season. I just have a hard time seeing him get fired up but maybe just having a new voice in the room will benefit them.

I’m also down on the Spurs. I guess you always want to give Pop the benefit of the doubt, but I just don’t see the talent there to compete. I’d also probably have them at 13, but lean towards them being in the bottom tier than to competing for a play in spot.

I’m struggling with how to rank the Lakers. Am I down on them because I just don’t believe in Westbrook?, or is my Clipper fandom clouding my view on them. They still have like 2 top 5 players in the league regardless of the rest of the roster. But really outside of their “Big 2 1/2” their rotation will be like 3 guys that got bought out by other playoff contenders, 5 minimum contract guys, THT, and Nunn. I don’t think their age alone is a problem, but with age comes injury. I’m not counting Lebron out, but the fact is that we haven’t seen Lebron play a full healthy normal season in like 4 years since his last year in Cleveland? The one year in LA he was healthy, they got a 4 month break between the regular season and playoffs. I feel like the 3 seed is probably right, but I think they’d be more likely to slip down than to be in the top 2.

I would say:

  1. Jazz
  2. Suns
  3. Lakers
  4. Nuggets
  5. Mavericks
  6. Warriors
  7. Clippers
  8. Portland
  9. Timberwolves
  10. Grizzlies
  11. Kings
  12. Pelicans

Hmm i would not be so sure about that; some of these borderline all stars are definitely up to be traded by teams. Despite the fact that simmons is being so goddamn annoying, many teams still want him.

Nobody will give an all-star for Simmons. I think Morris and Kennard are a really good return for the Sixers and would help their team a lot. They’re 40+% 3-point shooters. Luke can start at the 1 or come off the bench. Morris is a clear upgrade over Green. All a beast like Embiid needs is good 3 point shooters to give him space to dominate.
