For the whole season we have been building our identity as a jump shooting team with Morris, Reggie, Batum, Kennard (and to some extend Bev and Ibaka) working as 3-point threats out of Kawhi’s and PG’s penetrations and double-teaming.

Now, with Bev hardly playable, Kennard out of the rotation and Ibaka injured, you don’t want to go away from your best spot up shooter, who is Reggie. Look, outside of Reggie and Morris, we have really no one able to constantly score in double digits as a third scoring option.

I agree that he should play less. Probably around 28 minutes, but I would give his 4-6 minutes away to Batum and not to Rondo. Rondo needs to be on the floor with at least two good spot-up shooters, which for today are Morris, Reggie and Batum.

Not that he would have solved the Luka problem, but in general with his experience, abilities to hit clutch jumpers (including threes) and general leadership, he would be a big to rely on.

I was more than sure that Zu will be a liability for some of the matchups and we see it now. We are lucky that Dallas has no interior force as their bigs are not playing really to the basket.

We might survive Dallas without Ibaka, but I don’t see us doing well without him against a team like Utah. They are even better in generating easy open looks from a 3-point line than Dallas, but also have a pick&roll threat and elite rim protector in Gobert (and Favors as a back-up).

It’s not a problem for now, but without Ibaka we are really thin in frontcourt rotations, as the most of us agree that neither Cousins nor 2Pat are solutions for the playoffs.

If the Mavs want to try and kill the Clips inside the paint, I say let them try, and make the move back to Zu if necessary, but make them adjust and change up their game plan. So far this series, you let them take any shot inside the arc they want.
