Batum explained some of the reasons for his decision on the french Twitch show First Team.

The most important factor was that the team showed him how much they wanted him.

He received calls from PG, Kawhi, Frank, Lue and Ballmer shortly after the news about Hayward. He seems enthusiastic about his role and eager to contribute.

I think this could turn out to be a very good fit for the Clippers.

Between load management, covid and injuries he will have plenty of chances to prove himself.

Assuming the worst (scoring wise) he is still an above average defender, rebounder and passer. Solid addition.

=> PG-Kawhi-Batum-Mook-Ibaka
6-7 to 6-10 guys all on the floor. They can pass, defend, shoot and play make (to a varying degree, but still).
The obvious wild card here is Batum, can he bounce back?
If motivation is the main issue, I believe he can.

Barnes was the last player signed that year (I think…if not last, then really close to last). He was basically an afterthought. Turned out that he was our starting small forward for 2-3 years.

You have more than enough ball handlers & I rather give Mann those guard min than Bowman + we know for a fact that Rondae can guard 1-4 at an elite level.. Unless they need that 14th spot to be a non guaranteed deal then I’m ok with it.. Rondae is worth more than a non guaranteed min deal so perhaps that’s why he got passed on

Assuming no improvement from doc, I’d have to give this off season a C/C+. Losing JMG and signing MM to this pretty bad contract are D- moves. Signing Ibaka helps offset those moves, but without a true pg, signing ibaka will not negate the loss of JMG enough to bump up the grade beyond a C/C+.

If Ty ends up fixing our offense and helps our younger guys to develop, I imagine the grade will be much higher and potentially an A. Doc was a fantastic recruiter. He was great at some other aspects of coaching as well. But his playoff failures put a hard cap on the team’s potential. We really don’t know how good this team would be in the right hands. If Lue ends up being the right coach, we could end up seeing much better ball movement. We might see Terrance Mann actually becoming a rotation piece. We could see Kennard develop into a legit WC starter. We could see Zu grow into a household name and a legit top 5 center. We could see the best ball movement the clippers have had since 06. If this ends up being the case, I don’t see why the FO wouldn’t get an A for their work the past couple of months.

I wouldn’t split them up. I especially want them to get minutes together so that they could be ready for playoffs.

And he has a more NBA body. But he doesn’t take initiative very often, plays too passively for a PG atm.

But Ky Bowman played a lot more minutes with the banged up Warriors, and that dude straight up hustles! Like a poor man’s Derrick Rose. He’s gonna hustle for those minutes
