I’ve always like Noel as a backup center, so the thought of getting him plus assets is intriguing. Assets that can be moved in another consolidation trade, which is where the Clippers are really lacking in trying to get a deal done. Obviously losing Hart would be a killer, so I assume they’re going to wait until see how free agency pans out for both Hart and the Knicks, but would be a solid backup plan.

I would hope would be at least a 1st or projected high 2nd rounders. Late 2nd round picks are usually available for cash, and probably way cheaper than the $40M in taxes that Noel would cost, so doubt Baller would go for that. Those Detroit 2nd rounders back might be enough to get a deal done.

Might just all depend on how deep into the tax Ballmer is willing to go. Seeing the Warriors and their huge tax bill hoist the championship trophy might be enough for Ballmer to go all out.

you’ve got roster issues. With the 14 guys you have listed + Boston and Preston, that’s 16 guaranteed contracts. Someone’s gotta get cut in camp if it goes down like that (it won’t).

I think Noel is fine as a backup C. I prefer Hart but the one thing I like about this move is we could get draft assets back plus another expiring contract which can be valuable at the deadline for a disgruntled upgrade at PG or C. If we also bring back Hart, ohmeohmy so many trade chips. Would legit be 3 deep at 4 of the 5 positions.

C – Zubac/Hart/Noel
PF – Roco/Batum/Morris
SF – Kawhi/Mann/Coffey

Didn’t realize he had a team option 23-24 thanks
Makes me want him and the “friendly” team option as it could help in numerous ways .
And yeah not worth paying the that much luxury tax for a late 1st, if that we’re to even happen.
Will be interesting if this tpe deal gets done hopefully adding a first and usable backup center
For just the tpe. But will still need to consolidate.

so to answer your question, Noel could get cut/bought out but it wouldn’t happen. first of all, you have to pay the luxury tax on guys you cut, so Clips would basically be buying whatever pick/s NYK gives them for like upwards of $40M. but also, Nerlens has a 9.2M salary with a 9.7M team option for next year. Clips can keep him and use him in a trade at the deadline and he can be treated as an expiring. Or, they can pick up the option next summer and keep him around as an expiring again. It’s a team-friendly deal that you’d want to keep in the war chest. Also, if you trade a guy you DON’T have to pay luxury tax on his salary at the end of the year, so Clips would hold on to him in hopes of throwing him in a trade before they cut him and that money became dead.

Here’s a good question, can we absorb Noel with tpe and pick/s then cut/buyout noel?
Don’t know exactly why we would at that point if only to not congest the center position if wall takes min. And hart takes tpmle?
