In the final 4 min. of a tied Playoff game, who do we have: KL, PG, Mann or Norm, 2 of Batum, Roco or Zu. I can’t see Russ pushing out Mann or Norm. Maybe rather see EJ instead.

It made me a much better fan in having a (general) grasp of it all.

I’ve followed the Spurs for years until Patty Mills left and remember Coach Pop resting his stars during the season. Hell, he even gave a DND-OLD for Duncan before.

In 2012, he rested 4 starters against the Heat and the Heat barely won by 2 points.

The Raptors used load management to great success with Kawhi which involved him doing things off the court to improve.

The difference between the Spurs and Raptors success with it versus the Clippers, IMO, is that the Clippers really suck without him on the floor. He and PG have to clock in crazy minutes and gaudy stats to even pick up wins against crappy teams. The Spurs were well coached and the Raptors in 2019 were above .500 without him playing.

The Clippers, on the other hand, blow leads which results in more minutes for the stars and have an offense that involves heavy ISO and saying, “Please do this every possession and win the game”

I followed the Spurs for years and only stopped once Patty Mills left the team. Coach Pop would rest his stars all the time during a long season. Hell, he even gave Duncan a DND-OLD before on a report

There was also the big Heat match up in 2012 and all 4 stars rested for the Spurs…and if I remember correctly, the Heat barely won by 2.

The Raptors used load management to great success with him too which involved doing things off court to improve

The difference between the Spurs and Raptors approach to it and Clippers, IMO, is that the Clippers really suck without him playing. It’s really sad that he and PG have put up gaudy numbers and a lot of minutes against crappy teams for them to pickup a win. It really feels like 48 minutes of letting him or PG catch at the elbow and saying, “Do something heroic.”

Spurs were solidly coached to pick up wins against bad teams without stars and Raptors were still above .500 in games without Kawhi.

I feel like I can watch 5 minutes of Morris and figure out if he’s going to have a good game. The fact he can brick like 7 shots in a row, get blown by on defense, and still close the game over like Zubac is just confounding.

Paired that with the complete lack of even trying to get RoCo minutes all season long is just crazy.

To me, Batum has earned the closing job at the PF spot, and Morris should be no where near the court in the last 5 minutes of a game. I would be closing at least 90% of games with Mann or Norm, PG, Kawhi, Batum, and Zu.

Like I think he would’ve been great on this team, but given how much better than us Denver has been, and how KD is on the Suns now, he wouldn’t have put us ahead of those squads (especially since we would’ve had to give up Mann and others to get him). In terms of an actual “star” we’d probably be looking at guys who are good enough to make All-NBA teams. Now as to who that’ll be? I have no idea. Maybe Dame finally asks out, or Trae Young, or KAT, but really who knows? It’s the NBA, there’s always somebody very talented but unhappy out there.

He’s basically been high usage John Wall. More rebounds, slightly better defense, but more TOs and more unjustifiable attitude. I’d take Bev on a buyout over him 10000x

It takes impressive mental gymnastics to talk yourself INTO Russ–a substantially worse player than anyone in our rotation pre-trade or post-trade (comparable to Wall but he had been removed)
