I mean we’re not getting the stars of the NBA anyways. I don’t really see much difference between a guy like Hamidou Diallo participating and Mac McClung.

I think if anything McClung showed they might as well lean into just taking real dunkers from the g-league to put on a good show. This was the best dunk contest in years, because of inclusion of a g-league guy.

I’ve been saying for a while they might as well include just like professional dunkers and G-league guys for a while. If you’re not getting the stars, you might as well get good dunks. Maybe have the stars be “coaches” or get involved in other ways. It would still be better than taking like the 15th man on a roster who probably will be out of the league in 2 years.

I was intrigued by his G-league stats last season. I think he shot over 40% from 3 in the G-league, so surprised he wasn’t called up by someone. Not that I’ve ever seen him play but his g-league stats last year were impressive. This year, seems like his shooting is down.

McClung as a Clipper next year would be cool. He’ll bring bag some lob city flair to this team.

McClung is a fun story but I think we already knew there were guys at Venice and Rucker who could do mind blowing circus dunks. Don’t want to be too negative but will the G league become a portal for guys to squeak into these things without corroboration of overall NBA viability? If so this just takes us back toward the mascots and trampolines:-).

This a fair appraisal of the ideal scenario. But Russ’ assist to turnover ratio makes feeding him minutes a risk. As has been mentioned repeatedly here this is not the point in the season to tinker with such things especially after the Wall failure.

If Gordon wasn’t such an amazing revelation I would be more inclined to roll the dice. Russ could still bring some locker room verve but Bev would also bring that and not care about his role.

Nothing would please me more than if you were right and Russ took us to another level. I’m just skeptical right now.

This year’s contest was fun.
I especially loved it when most of these dunkers delivered on the first attempt.

Great job for McClung. I certainly don’t buy the hype for next year of Ja participating. Most of the nba stars will be saying: what’s in it for me? The league should just put a million dollars as the prize and invite the hungry G leaguers and not the prima doña stars.
