I don’t mind Simmons or Gobert if available, but both is probably giving up too much offense for defense. Don’t forget that the Clips as constructed are already a top 3 (?) defense in the league, it’s their offense that has been letting them down. Putting 2 non shooters on the floor, I think will clog the lane, and way too much of a shakeup when we haven’t even seen this team fully constructed with PG/KL.

Of your two trades, I probably prefer the Simmons deal. Sure the “hole” is probably more at backup center, but shoving Gobert and Zu into the lineup feels like a bit of overkill (and over spending).

In the end, I don’t think either of those deals is really realistic knowing what they have invested in those guys. I don’t think either of them gets moved this season.

Hey there–what’s with the clips softening up the opponents the day before they meet the Lake show so that they get a weakened opponent? Have to say, tho, that I loved seeing Indy snatch one last nite–very cool ending–slapped them lakes right in the mouth. Ouch. After the final buzzer, Indy looked like they just won the NCAAs. Wow.

Turner and Hield combined to go 2/13 from 3-point range against the Lakers tonight after shooting 2/15 against the Clippers. Neither are doing much to improve their stock in these showcase games with potential trade partners. If the Pacers are still holding out hope to get both of the Lakers 1st round picks for them… I don’t think that’s happening.

I suggested a deal that nets them like one Laker’s 1st, Clipper’s 2nd, B.Boston or Preston, and gets them out of their bad contracts (for Russ’ expiring) with Hield going to the Lakers, and Turner going to the Clippers. Feels like that’s going to probably the best they can hope for.

Tuner as a backup big would still be a smart trade IMHO. We need frontcourt help and Turner is probably the best available out there unless Capela was to become available.

If we traded powell, Luke and RoCo for Gobert, and MM and Reggie for Ben Simmons, we could start a line up of:

Simmons
PG
Leonard
Batum
Gobert

and still have a bench with

Wall
BBJ
Mann
Coffey
Zu

That starting line up would be the craziest defense of all time and that bench is pretty solid as well. In a series, we def wouldn’t go 10 deep and put out an amazing 7-8 player rotation fully capable of going small or big. I don’t think either of those trades would be such a reach.

Simmons showed flashes while Kyrie was out and I would def take a chance on him if we are only giving up MM and Reggie. He still has a ton left on his contract and for that price, I think there is a good chance he adds more value that Reggie or MM (even tho both of those guys have been pretty great). Simmons is doing nothing for the nets with Kyrie in the line up and if I were them, I’d much rather have MM and Reggie’s creation over Simmons.

IMO, Gobert is really not clicking with the wolves. That team would be way better with Norm, Roco and Luke spacing the floor and providing more scoring options.

I could see Gobert going for more than that package tho. Maybe we are able to squeeze some picks out of brooklyn and attach them to minni for gobert. If I were any other team, I prob wouldn’t trade for gobert. He makes too much money for a rim protector and he simply cannot be the first or second best player on a championship team. But in our case, we need to consolidate value and I love the idea of putting out the best defensive line up of all time with 5 guys who could be the best defensive player on almost any team in the league. Imagine Simmons and PG guarding the point of attack with Leonard and Batum providing help coverage and Gobert protecting the rim. If they bring gobert out to the perimeter, Batum slides into the 5 and Leonard is there to help. That’s truly 4 guys who can guard pretty much any position and one of the best rim protectors of all time who is also elite at setting picks. Leonard, Batum and PG provide enough spacing that Gobert and Simmons wouldn’t kill us. Simmons wouldn’t have to take a single shot in order to add value to that line up and maybe that gives him the confidence to start playing like a guy who actually likes the game. Simmons and Gobert would also have a great PnR game with the ability to kick it out to one of our 3 knock down shooters.

Love watching Zu get better every year! I’m loving the contract we just signed with him. $11M through July 2025 He’s the definition of an asset.

After listening to part of the Podcast about this game, many times this year, our offense just is so clunky. And, even if our 3pt shot is falling, it is rare to be consistent for the entire game.
If Zu can catch passes (and not be Stonehands), then John Wall and Reggie will feed it to him in the paint. Being a real 2-way player, Zu — just will do wonders for us.
Also, JW needs to pair with Zu or Moses so that if he attacks the basket, but doesn’t get a layup, then Zu or Moses can finish up with a rebound or put back shot.
