It would be a shame if we gave up on small ball given how it almost got us to the finals a couple years ago and that was without Leonard. I still maintain that if we got any rest before or during the Phoenix series, we would’ve beat them and then probably lost to the Bucks. MM and PG, who had been incredible all post season, were so broken down at that point. The condensed schedule killed us.

Denver didn’t have anything like our wings or Zu so maybe Bones would be a plus player.

Given he’s almost a starting caliber player, what do you think are the chances we send out Zu in a consolidation trade to maybe get another star? I understand that would put us back at square 1 regarding our center depth, but I also feel like we have too much talent at the position at this point.

My take on it is that this is similar to players like LBJ and KD pushing their FO’s to make crazy trades to win now. TL thinks we need a traditional pg in order to win and the FO is unwilling to overpay to get one. As a fan of the team, I’m happy that the FO has the discipline to only make moves that net us value over pushing our chips all in to win now. I think we have to continue to build assets until the right opportunity comes up. None of the target pgs were traded at the deadline. The asking price was almost definitely too high and our FO did a good job making moves around the margins.

In the press conference, I also heard LF call out that our guards didn’t fit well together and we couldn’t find minutes to play all of them. Maybe TL was playing those guard units in the hopes of getting justifiable minutes for all of our great guards. When it became clear it wasn’t working, the FO made a trade at the deadline. I never thought the micro ball line ups would work, but if they did, it would have made decisions for the FO much easier. Just keep all the guys and let them play together. I’m hopeful we start getting better line ups with the deadline behind us. Can’t wait for tomorrow’s game!

Should have been done in the summer and I wish that it didn’t come at the cost of losing all our point guards.

Unfortunately the sample size on those lineups is miniscule going into the trade deadline, so Plumlee is the perfect true backup big.

I love the option to stay big throughout a game, I just hope they don’t give up on the idea of small ball completely. I think there are a lot of situations and WITH THE RIGHT LINEUPS where small ball would work, but for some reason the idea of playing like really big wings at the 2 through 5 spots, just seems lost on the coaching staff at this point. Please just no more Morris at center or 3-guard lineups.

It gives the Clipper bigs some license to play more aggressively. We would’ve defeated Milwaukee on the road if we had Plumlee available to use after the refs put Zu in foul trouble.

In addition, a wing or guard heavy lineup tends to work more effectively with a true big at the #5. The guards and forwards can extend the range of the defense and reach the 3 pt line, knowing they have some protection in the paint. Toronto’s 2019 team had 2 bigs in Ibaka and Gasol who helped their wingy team be more effective. You could see it in the BKN v Philly game, where the Nets’ new wings were able to play up more aggressively on Harden and Embiid in the area between the foul line and just past the 3 pt line because they had Claxton at the #5. This change alone will make Norm Powell more effective to where he is borderline all star level because he can’t be played off the court as easily with that kind of protection behind him.

Definitely hurts to lose Reggie, but I understand why the FO made this move. That being said, I have no idea why it took this long to find a decent backup C. We knew during last offseason that this was gonna be a problem, and the FO just kinda…sat around the entire time. If we had just signed a competent backup big last summer (…and assuming Ty actually played him) we would probably have another 3-5 wins at this point…
