I highly disagree w/ him being one of the worst coaches in the NBA (Luke Walton would like to have a word w/ you), but I do believe he fits a particular coaching archetype, and only that archetype. That is, I think he’s the perfect coach for a young, developing, up-and-coming, scrappy underdog type of team that needs motivation, stability, and “legitimacy” (e.g. see SGA/Shamet Clips from a couple seasons ago) – I actually thought he’d be a perfect hire for a team like the Pelicans. What he isn’t is, well, he isn’t the kind of coach who’s going to win you games in the playoffs w/ his schemes and rotations (and, as we’ve seen, his decisions/lack of adjustments can lose you games), and he’s gonna struggle against coaches who can do this (e.g. it shouldn’t have taken 6 close games to beat a Porzingis-less Mavs team, but Carlisle is a phenomenal coach, and Doncic is transcendent) – the ring he won w/ Boston was won w/ overwhelming talent and inherent veteran player leadership.

All that being said, I’m really interested in seeing how he handles Philly this year. I really don’t think he’s the right coach for that team, but who knows, maybe Morey can pull off enough transaction magic to get enough talent to pull it off – he’s already done a ton of stuff this offseason that I didn’t think was possible (e.g. turned Al Horford’s contract into Danny Green).

He never once took accountability for his costly mistakes. For some reason we are supposed to think it’s just a coincidence that he has the most blown 3-1 playoff leads than any coach in history. Back in the Lob City days he always blamed the players and never took accountability for his own glaring failings as a coach. He always blamed his players lack of “spirit” or “heart”, but never his terrible in-game management, and poor lineup decisions.

Yeah sure it was the special treatment of the star players that was the issue NOT the fact that he REFUSED to stop playing Trez against Jokic… SURE.

I’m sorry but I cant allow Doc to keep getting a pass just because he did a good job during the Sterling fiasco. Nope… All the epic playoff collapses during his tenure. No coach ever got so little out of so much talent at his disposal. I stand by my view that he is one of the WORST coaches in the NBA and in the playoffs quite possibly THE worst. F’ this man. I am sooooo freaking glad we are rid of him.

The media (justifiably) shits on PG13 for saying dumb stuff and for not owning up to his own failings, but often gives Doc a pass. I’ll always have a soft spot for how Doc handled the team during the Sterling fiasco, but at this point it’s looking more and more like PG13 wasn’t the only one w/ an “accountability” problem last year.
