But, yes, based on the standard way that diagnosing an ACL tear unfolds in real time, it feels very possible that the current ambiguity/delay is to establish the severity of the sprain. In most cases, there is not this much ambiguity on the sprained vs torn distinction 2 days after the injury occurs.

But it’s not unheard of for it to play out in such a way where diagnosis was delayed cause he felt fine, then clinical tests were inconclusive, and then imaging was unclear because of swelling, only for them to eventually find a tear. Again, that would be unusual, but not impossible.

Grade 1 – mild sprain, matter of weeks, would return at some point in playoffs if we can advance without him. Grade 2 – partial tear, a few months, would be fine for the start of next season. Tear, 6-9 months, would miss much if not all of next season.
