Assuming we keep Batum, our team is stacked and solid at all positions.

I thought it was great news but apparently not everyone does. Adding even an aging J Wall to our team is a big win. But what he has left in the tank is unknown, I guess we just need to wait and see how he looks on the court, it will be fun

BUT Morris is a great offensive weapon that I would not want to lose for nothing. He’s clearly declining physically and becoming a worse defender and rebounder with age.

I feel like he still has a lot of utility for a Clipper team if he’s asked to come off the bench and stand in the corner. So what can the Clipper really do with him? Trade him for a 2nd round pick? Might as well keep him around than do something like that. If he’s fill in salary for a consolidation trade great, but I think it’s pretty clear that no team in the league is looking to trade for Morris for his actual value as a basketball player. He has more value to the Clippers than to basically any other team in the league. He’s a guy that I wouldn’t mind keeping around, but on the bench or maybe even out of the rotation if everyone is healthy.

If he gets back to shooting 47% from 3-point range, then yes it might be hard to keep him out of the rotation, but otherwise, give the minutes to someone else.

I’m actually expecting to be mostly disappointed when we see Wall shoot the ball.

Really his skill as a play maker is the main thing I’m hopeful about. Assist numbers are some of the hardest to figure out how they translate to actual offensive production and efficiency though. Russell Westbrook spent almost the past 5 years putting up 10 assists per game, but he’s not someone I would call a pure point guard or even a “pass-first” point guard. I’m really curious to watch how Wall’s playmaking translates to this Clipper’s team’s offense.

When you have Lucas concerned about which three quality players might get a DNP on opening night, you know you’re ahead of the game.

The Clippers are in rare air at this point. It’s truly an embarassment of riches, and it’s fun to break down all the options. The good news is that we’re all pretty confident that Ty Lue has a good feel for exploiting the strengths of the roster and making changes.

There are two elements in the way that I would like to think about John Wall joining the team.

The first is to look at it as a good and intriguing version of the Rondo disaster. Remembering that moment, Lou Williams was a soulful, somewhat complicated primary ballhandler, while Rondo was an experienced (washed up) facilitator, and Pat Bev was also a key element in the equation. The idea was to get a traditional point guard. The whole thing became a nasty mess, and it was an extremely unfortunate way for Lou Will to depart. These days, Reggie has emerged as the soulful x-factor in something like the Lou Will mold, and the idea is that he can be more effective with less responsibility. Maybe Terence Mann is the current version of Pat Bev–he would be perfectly good as a complementary starter. But you still want a gifted facilitator, there’s still that same impulse that caused the Clips to go after Rondo. And John Wall seems like a much better version.

On top of that, there’s the Clipper reclamation factor. Which player is more astonishing in his current excellence, Nick Batum or Reggie Jackson? How good is Zu in his role–and he keeps getting better, refining details, never taking a step backwards (congrats on the new deal). Everybody on the Clippers seems to be getting better. If anything we’re frustrated that Terence Mann had a slow start and didn’t make the leap into being a top tier player. Trade Luke Kennard?–he might be the best shooter in the league, he has a solid all-around game, and how effective can he be playing alongside Kawhi and PG? I’m in favor of having the chance to see that. Even Justice Winslow, who had virtually no game and couldn’t shoot, started to show his value when he was asked to step up, and he became a solid trade piece–that netted Robert Covington! So there could be a really good version of John Wall that might emerge.

The Hart question needs to be answered, on his own or with N Noel or whatever–Hart could easily head out and get a big bag of money. He’s such a good fit on the Clippers that you think he’d like to stay. The one guy I don’t need to see hanging around is M. Morris, and maybe he’s part of an interesting consolidation deal with another piece. And we don’t seem to be talking about Norman Powell–who is really good and complementary. The whole thing is kind of nuts.
