I actually can’t remember a more surprising champion than the Warriors this year. Maybe I was just down on them because they went through such a long stretch in the 2nd half of the season playing mediocre ball this year. I think in February through March their record was 10-16, it’s just crazy you can play that bad at the end of the year, and run all the way to the championship. They were the team I was hoping the Clips could find a way to face, but when they dropped to 3rd, it became nearly impossible.

I somewhat agree on the lack of mental toughness, but there were also better teams than them in the Western Conference each year, and most years they would have been underdogs in the Finals as well.

Love how you articulated this point. The pressure is just enormous and that’s why I think we have to assemble the clear cut favorites juggernaut roster not just contenders. Rob and Shap were discussing Kyrie on the pod and if that opportunity presents itself we should do it for anyone not named Paul George or Kawhi Leonard. Could he be a locker room cancer? Maybe, but the likelihood that he could seal a finals series with the 40 point outing far outweighs that risk. There should be other opportunities for major upgrades too and with all the great wings we have teams will be lusting after them now–especially after these finals.

It’s good that the Clips got the WCF’s experience out of the way. So glad Kawhi has a chance to bring his Finals experience to the team. Did you all listen to Jamal Crawford on All the Smoke talking about why Lob CIty didn’t win a chip? He basically said they lacked mental toughness. Matt Barnes did not disagree.

I can only hope the Clips fan base can handle the pressures of a Finals closeout game – I have to say, I didn’t think Chase Center could compete with Oracle for engagement and volume, but they chanted “DEE-FENSE” pretty much the entire game in Game 5 – it was impressive. Would Finals rookie Clips fans do that, with all of the years of emotional trauma they carry?
