I get that you’re not going to be able to fight through every screen, but I just felt like the Clips’ system last year resulted in way too much unnecessary switching – guys would switch off of every single screen, regardless of how hard it was set and regardless of position, so we’d wind up w/ like Shamet on Jokic or Zu on Jamal Murray, which would throw the rest of the defense into a panic scramble situation.

I do like that we seem to be switching less. That bugged a lot of us last season.

Having your centers play up more will make a HUGE difference! Which is all I’ve been asking for

I’ve always said they need to mix their coverages, including more zone.. Although, their zone is really BAD! They’re constantly in the wrong spots & Zu is clueless as to what to do, more times than not.. Seems like he picks up a tech every other time.. The lack of practice doesn’t help there but they’re pros & zone is one of the easiest schemes to use.. There’s no excuse to how bad they’ve looked running it.. The lack of trust & understanding where to be, has really shown there..

All I’m asking for, with their drop coverage, is some effort from the bigs though.. Just don’t make it so damn easy.. That simple fix would drop their defensive rating & points allowed drastically! They literally should be hovering around 100 in both categories with ease & that’s despite having bad guard play off the bench

There will probably be a better balance of different coverages being used once the team has its full arsenal. At least I think so.

Sometimes it feels that they are dropping behind the backboard and opposing guards have the time to discuss with their team mates will they pull up, drive or make an extra pass out of the drive. And those drops with 2 seconds left on the shot clock? Jeez. I’m not saying that not to use it, but at times I’d just like for Lue to say: “This shit stops now, I don’t care what else happens!”
Lue is reacting to bad stuff but he doesn’t seem to be too quick about it.
