Also very happy with the way Mann has made himself useful. He is a piece that offers things the other guards don’t have (Pat Bev excluded).

If only Kennard would make himself a bit more useful.

I meant 12/3/3 per game, on something like 25 mpg. I don’t feel like that’s an unreasonable expectation for $13M/season type of player – I’m basically just hoping for Austin 2016-2017-type production.

Your overall point is well taken though. It’s less about the numbers and more about his actual impact – Luke shies away from the spotlight way too frequently. I agree that Reggie and Mann are contributing more right now, and I’m glad Lue’s willing to play them despite Luke being one of the “bigger” offseason acquisitions.

You mention 12/3/3 on decent percentages–my follow-up would be 12/3/3/ per what. Game? It depends entirely on how much he’s playing. Per 36 minutes? He’s averaging 13.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per 36 minutes, while shooting 46.4% from the field and 44.6% from deep. That clears the bar you set, right?

But yet it still feels like Reggie and Mann have been more impactful.

Regarding Luke, I don’t fault Lue for not playing him. This isn’t a short leash situation (i.e. where a young guy shows promise, but is immediately yanked for making a mistake) – Lue and we fans as a whole have been damn patient w/ Luke this season. Nobody here is expecting him to replicate PG13’s impact/production – personally, all I’m looking for is something like 12 pts, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, on decent percentages – but we are expecting him to not shy away from the moment and for him to not be a net negative out there, which should be a given for a dude as talented as him.

Luke hasn’t gotten many minutes recently because he hasn’t shown that he can consistently be a positive contributor yet, but I fully expect he’ll get another chance, and I fully expect Lue to ride him if he takes advantage of his next chance. I don’t think this is a situation where Lue will just stubbornly dig in and refuse to play the dude just because he’s had a rough go of it lately – if that were the case we wouldn’t be seeing Reggie play now after his abhorrent start to the season.

Luke’s contract extension isn’t looking so hot right now, but on the flip side it also means he’s gonna have plenty more opportunities to show that he actually deserved it.
