Sorry that was too harsh even for me about the front office employment status. Guess the Christmas spirit is softening me up a little because I retract that bah humbugery.
What I meant is…if it gets to the point where we have to push the eject button on the Kawhi era our current front office probably shouldn’t facilitate trades beyond that white flag waving point considering that their past choices (extending the contract of Kawhi/ giving the full MLE to a point guard who had previously played 1.5 seasons in 5 years/ Excedrin Excedrin) will have been what lead us to that bitter shift.
Verdict is still not out yet. Let’s see what happens.
Regardless, until we are as certain as one can be that Kawhi is going to be able to play for a substantial amount of time at a star level we should not be trading youth for older players. Cautious moving forward.

Definitely a tough call. I feel like Powell is sneaky old, injury prone and streaky to the point that his contract could look horrendous and eternally binding if we don’t get off of it. I also am a year and 2 months shy of saying let’s blow this thing up if it continues the way it has, and he’s probably the wrong age to see the other side of a Clippers rebuild. I was higher on him last year when people were suggesting he was a Luke type 3 ball shooter (hasn’t been this first quarter of a year but I understand it’s been a bumpy ride for everyone in a Clipper uniform) Hope he proves my doubts wrong.
THAT BEING SAID I don’t think I’d do the trade because Zu is a solid, solid backup or situational big on a friendly deal. He’s youngish too. Vuc is neither of those 2 things and just puts even more pressure on a win it all now mentality that I’d like to see this front office move away from…that is if they are still employed…which they probably shouldn’t be.

Law Murray (The Athletic’s beat writer for the Clippers) was a guest on the Lob and Jam Podcast yesterday, and Law had a great take as KL is our best Point Guard at this point in the season until he recalibrates his 3pt shot. KL and Nic Batum are the smartest players on the Clippers, and when KL plays and controls the ball — there is more thought that simply dribbling into double coverage.

In other news, one Bulls writer suggested the Bulls mite be shopping Vucevich. One proposal sends Vuc here for Zu (defense) and Nic (good shooting wing). Vuc’s good but that’s a tough call.

Agree he should drive and get some mid range attempts up if they close on him. That may also discourage the full on close out for fear of the drive. But he doesn’t want to get blocked on a 3 ball–too easy a run out the other way.

He shies away from just one defender who gets close. Seemingly fearing the occasional block. I agree, just shoot it regardless. Just shoot more period. He’s also great from midrange. And finishing at the basket.
