Is our current win streak due to Coach Lue?

CP3 leaving the team?

Kawhi, Zu, DJJ and Bogi missing time to injuries, which forces Coach to actually play the young guys?

Frank actually drafted good players — but young players need at least 2 years to grow into serviceable pros?

KL and Harden are just amazing, but we’ve seen this story before.

Harden cannot play 36+ min/game and have anything left in tank come April/May.

Sell high at the trade deadline, get future picks and play our core young four: Miller, both Kobes, Yanik and Cam.

Crazy analogy but James reminds me of the enemy soldier in Saving Private Ryan who kills an American soldier by slowly sticking a knife into him while whilspering “it’s OK”
James just slowly sticks the knife in and they look helpless to stop him. He’s a weapon.

There are 8 games before the trade deadline. Kawhi’s injury throws things up in the air, but it does seem like LAC has a real shot to hold the #10 spot and make the play in. I think with Miller’s emergence to go along with Sanders/Christie, the real need is backup #1.

A possible trade could be Bogdanovic + Lopez + CP3 for Malik Monk + Precious Achiuwa + Doug McDermott.

It helps both teams as Sac gets rid of a 3rd year on Monk, they get an expiring contract on CP3 which they could extend for his veteran leadership and ability to train point guards, they get a stretch big in Lopez, which might fit the style they’d like to play, and they get Bogi, who can be a credible rotation guard for them. LAC obviously gets Monk. The other 2 are fillers for salary cap needs though Achiuwa may be serviceable.

All the more reason LAC has to feature Jordan Miller in Kawhi’s absence and get him on the court earlier so that he can play with Harden/Zu. Miller has the bag and confidence to score on his own. We’re going to need to replace Kawhi’s points and his gravity. Miller is the guy with that skill set.

Many things factored into this being an ugly win. No Kawhi, the dog days of winter, and Washington is no longer the doormat they once were. Sarr and George are flat out special. They are another case like the Hornets of a team that’s been crappy but quietly acquiring young talent and blossoming mid season. It’s good that we got these two games out of the way rather than a month from now. I think Chicago should be a little easier to figure out. They are a team that’s definitely rebuilding and the players know several of them are on the trading bloc. We managed to keep James’ minutes down and no way he’s a goose egg from deep again tomorrow.

All of this is moot however if Kawhi is having another one of those chronic inflammation issues and can’t go on Thursday. Our record is too terrible to survive any length of time without him against the better teams.
