I love all of this analysis. I seriously hope we start Dunn because we cannot let Steph get going. I’m leaning toward swapping out DJ for JC too but there’s risk in terms of chemistry this early in JC’s tenure. My fear is that between Draymond, Buckets and Kuminga, Kawhi could be in for a rough night. Starting JC instead offers us POA off the bench in DJ to join Nico, Brook, CP and I guess Bogi in that unit. Like you said, if we lose it’s going to be due to lack of chemistry and/or self inflicted wounds, because we are the better roster overall.

In addition to cutting down on TOs and playing through Zu, a key on defense is to play Jimmy and Steph without fouling. Dunn can’t rack up 4 fouls guarding either of them. Contest, make them shoot, make them take higher degree of difficulty shots and secure every loose ball. Sounds easy and basic, but not so with the Clippers at times.

From the standpoint of getting a top 3 seed, this game qualifies as a ‘have to have it’. LAC is not currently on a top 3 pace after losing to Utah. They need to make up ground and beating GSW on the road when GSW is on the 2nd night of a back to back and LAC has clear matchup advantages on paper qualifies as one of those wins against a good team that LAC simply has to have.

If we don’t win, it’s not the end of the world and there is time to recover, but when you consider how tight the western conference has been in the Steph era, losing a game like this drops your odds. OKC just isn’t dropping games even when their 2nd best player is out.

No Beal tonight, which may be Ty’s way of gently easing him into the 2nd unit. LAC has a habit of making promises to vets on the downward side of their career and they simply can’t afford it with this promising roster.

GSW isn’t going to be able to apply the pressure that POR, PHX and Utah did. That should allow LAC to avoid a rash of turnovers. If they take care of the ball and play into Zu, they should win the game, but LAC isn’t as disciplined or focused as GSW. GSW has a clear identity and idea of how they want to play. We don’t. That’s what could cost LAC this game.

But GSW is on a secobaba with their key guys playing big minutes last nite. I know the season is young so that’s not a huge factor but it does give us an advantage. I’m hoping Dunn gets the nod over Bogi and that Kawhi’s none the worse for wear after his fall.
