Just reflecting back a bit — doesn’t it seem like every offseason the team makes moves that fill us fans with high hopes? And then, piece by piece, things start to crumble and we all fall back from being so high to being so, so low. In this years version, I think we were all in denial about the age thing, thinking that we were so, so deep that we could absorb the inevitable injuries. As to the pundits, they were dead wrong about us last year but pretty “spot on” as to how we have crumbled thus far. Is it possible for the team to turn this around with better injury luck and deadline margin moves? I’d say not likely. Will the team do a wholesale sell off, knowing that just the scrubs won’t but butts in the Dome’s seats? Again, not likely. I guess we just have to take the fall rn and be grateful for the team’s relative success these last many years of making the POs — while a lot of fan bases PO dreams seldom materialize. And, yes, I’ll still watch and hope for the best.

They’re trying to build a spirit of unity around the dead carcass of CP3’s career, but it doesn’t work b/c CP made at least a few trenchant points. The main one is that he seemed to urge Lue to move away from relying on Kawhi/Harden iso plays to create offense and go with more set/structured offense. I think that piece of CP3s critique is ‘spot on’ as the British might say. LAC can’t generate enough points using the Kawhi/Harden heavy offense. The data tell us this. In fact, a lot of their points aren’t from pure shot creation at all, but from solid screens set by Zu which frees them for jumpers or drives.

The damage control on this CP flap is both transparent and pathetic. That should be old news by now but they’ve animated all surrogates and got players saying all the right things too. I guess it’s going to take another ten losses before any real accountability sets in.

Yeah, that might be the move, but then they might just do the dumb trades in the summer.

If this team is going to make any noise this season in terms of making the play in, they either need to re-orient the offense more intentionally around Zu to make him a 20-10 guy every night as the first priority, or they go out and get a 2 guard to fill the Norm/Beal void (e.g., Monk, Zach LaVine).

We already are one of the 3 worst teams in the NBA this season, though. (I know what you mean, however.)

If Ballmer isn’t going to fire Frank and Lue then I’d rather they stand pat. Don’t want Frank in CYA mode blowing another 5-10 years by chasing band-aid solutions.

A lot of buzz around the Clippers on NBA social media. It feels like its other teams making inquiries and floating ideas vs NBA media folks than the Clippers actively seeking out deals.

The asset everyone wants is Zu, but the starting price is appropriately high, not just because Zu merits it, but also because we can’t replace what Zu does well and LAC would immediately become one of the 3 worst teams in the NBA this season if he were traded.

I just don’t think Ty Lue would want to be around a rebuilding experiment with 2 aging stars so I doubt it happens.

My guess is that LAC tries to work smaller deals for Bogi, Collins or DJJ to get some help at the 2 guard spot and just let the season ride out and see if they can make the play in if they can get a little more depth back at key positions.

Hope this mini break is a starting point for our turn around.
If we get at least one young guys to become permanent rotation player and have a long career with us, that will be a success.

It’s a good point, but that’s really entirely up to Ballmer. My read of it is that Ballmer wants to keep Frank and Lue together, but it’s also clear that something is going to give. There’s very likely going to be a trade to shake things up a bit, and once you open that door other moves become more possible or fall into place.
