You hit the nail on the head. We will continue to sit our youth and overplay the old guys and continue to state that they are getting(useless) reps in the G-league. Recipe for continued disaster. Bones should be getting time, Amir should be getting time, Kobe should be getting time. BBJ should be getting reps in the G-league along with Musa.

Noticed this as well that there’s a significant difference when it comes to fit. Even though Zu/PJ should be a great combo defensively and make up for it, it didn’t

Good game, took care of business. Outside of PJ, everybody else was solid or good. Adding Theis helps a ton. Biggest positives:

– 30 assists to 7 turnovers. Less isos being run. Harden and Russ were very good playmakers and they were used primarily as playmakers. A lot of guys involved in the offense. Harden took a couple of catch-and-shoot 3s (which will be important for the team). Players mostly played their roles within the offense rather than making individual efforts. Progress
– Relatively consistent energy. Adding Theis and having Mann healthy help, so does not burning out guys on offense
– 15 steals, we’re back to forcing turnovers

Building on these three factors would go a long way. Zu was better as well, outside of one turnover he passed better as the roll man and he mostly finishes with authority.

Negatives relatively minor. Finding lineups with both PJ and Russ is a challenge. Mann still not playing enough, I want at least 10 minutes of him with the second units in addition to the starters minutes. Norm was good (but mostly after the game was decided). He shouldn’t play more than Mann imo.

I don’t care that the Spurs are a bad team (but has some nights where they’re great) – we need all the wins we can get any way we can get them, so I’ll take it. In terms of things to take away from tonight, 1. Spurs are terrible on defense, and 2. Ty needs to stop playing Zu and PJ together. On to the next one.

Bench stint with Kawhi and Harden – continue to force turnovers. Not making a lot of open shots and a lot of the ones created are contested.

I worry that Ty will take this game as proof PJ at PF is acceptable. The Spurs are just playing like crap.

Starters after halftime: glimpses of how good they could become. Harden with excellent passing. Zu doing well, Mann doing all the little things. But: Zu with a turnover out of the pick’n’roll, team doesn’t play through Kawhi anymore, Harden calling an iso for a pull-up 3 when Zu had a post-up that would force a double team, some lazy, sub-optimal decisions. Did well, can and need to do better vs great teams

After the timeout: forcing turnovers, getting some easy buckets, overwhelming the Spurs. It’s very apparent that Harden’s best skill is passing and that the offense is at its best when he uses it

3rd bench unit with Zu and Mann: on defense not as good as they should be. On offense, PJ next to Zu is a problem. Shot quality was alright nonetheless but vs better teams, I think you can only have PJ and Zu together if you play excellent defense (which they didn’t). PJ pretty clearly the weak spot here, play Kobe or bring Kawhi back.

Russ missing two free throws, Mann a good look, Zu couldn’t finish, Russ couldn’t finish. Didn’t reward themselves. Two of those looks are more open if you have better spacing
