You can’t say “we shouldn’t trade quality players” and then casually float Kawhi for Kuminga and/or Norm for Randle or Bruce Brown. I wouldn’t do any of those. I actually like Kuminga, but he just (allegedly) turned down a $30M contract extension from the Warriors last offseason and wants a max – as much as I like him, dude does not look like he’s worth a max extension. Randle is a less efficient Norm and at this point isn’t even young, and Bruce Brown has basically no value right now so why would be trade Norm for him?

If we can get a usable PF/C or PG (even for just like 10mpg) out of some combination of PJ, Bones, and Kobe I’ll consider that a win.

I wouldn’t do any of these trades. I don’t really see the point in trading Kawhi for Kuminga, he just keeps us stuck in the middle. At least with Kawhi, this is the type of team he is perfect for as a ceiling raiser. Kuminga is improving, but not a needle mover yet imo.

The first trade on this would be a disaster. Powell, Batum and a 1st rounder for Randle would cripple us. And also Powell for Bruce Brown is a downgrade too.

The main need for this team might be upgrading the bench ball handler spot if Dunn and Mann can’t do it when Kawhi and Mann return.

I agree 100% on not putting anymore 1st rounders or quality players into deals and I’ve never suggested that. But I think there are ways to improve with PJ’s expiring, Bones/KPJ and maybe a 2nd rounder for one piece and picking up some perhaps at the buyout for another. I was all in on moving PG for Zack LaVine or Tyler Herro–which in retrospect has turned out to prescient. But I’m happy with what the FO ultimately did too. We don’t need star talent to fix our issues just competent vets. I’m pretty confident they will address both our need for more size and a secondary ball handler if Kawhi looks good. But like you said I’m opposed to giving up the farm to do so.

No disagreement from me. I get why they had to go all in and play the starters heavy minutes against New Orleans – the Spurs are good, and there’s no guarantee we beat them even at mostly full strength. I just meant if we wanted to realistically have a chance to go 2-0 in the 1st 2 games of this road trip, we absolutely had to blow out New Orleans. When that didn’t happen, the San Antonio game was essentially a lost cause.

Lue seems to value that ball handling, but KPJ should be out and let Mann and Dunn run the 2nd unit imo.

Sort of agree and disagree. It’s a BTB in less then 24 hours, and if we have to run our guys down in one game to sacrifice the other … then this was the best result.

But I agree that playing down to NO’s level put us in a position to only go 1-1. But my point is that once it looked bad, they had to push in all the chips to avoid going 0-2.

I would say no. Costs too much, and we don’t need another fragile old geezer.

In addition to Kawhi, Mann being out has also been pretty significant for this team if for no other reason other than it’s forced Ty to play KPJ more than he should.
