Okay it’s done. Clips get a 2nd round pick, which is okay I guess. Could have maybe done a smidge better, but this is about turning the page.

Lots of observations and notes. First off, props to James Harden. He played hard, played consistently, and made others and the team better. His relatively brief tenure was arguably more successful than Kawhi and PG, and it was a real pleasure to see how he was available and played almost every game. I didn’t like Harden before he came to the Clips, and I was skeptical about the deal, but I came out of it as a very satisfied customer and fan.

It’s funny to go through reactions to the deal and see how there are so many Harden haters out there. I think a lot of Clipper fans must be converts like me, and we can tell them that Cleveland has made a good deal in getting him, and he’ll make the team better and he will be a good fit. There will be flaws and wrinkles, more turnovers and misses than you might like, but he will raise the level of that team’s performance this year by a significant margin.

Happy for Harden, that he has a great opportunity to compete in the East and try to make the Finals, and he has more contract flexibility and potential than the Clippers were willing to give. So it’s good for him.

And he’ll take pressure off Donovan Mitchell and create more opportunities for him–we saw how Norm Powell was supercharged playing alongside Harden last year, and Mitchell is a much better player. On top of that, the impact on Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen will be even more noticeable. The Cavs just acquired Dennis Schroder and Keon Ellis, and it will help Harden to have solid backups and a lighter load–if he’s rested his percentages will go up.

Kind of classic for the Clips to be the hottest team in the league and end up having to make a move. Don’t think they were going too far this year, so it wasn’t a bad time to cash in the chip. And they could still be quite good, of course. Will ponder that later, down the road a bit, but first it seems like time to express some gratitude to James Harden for time well served.

Dime Dropper is a prominent Clippers YouTuber. I don’t always agree w/ his takes, but I appreciate the passion – dude is a die-hard Clippers fan, and we could always use more media representation/exposure.

I really wish we could’ve pried away a first, but at least Frank wasn’t crazy enough to *give up* draft capital. Gonna miss Harden, but these things happen. Guys like Duncan, Dirk, and Kobe who stay with one franchise their whole careers are extremely rare.

Wouldn’t surprise me if we shipped out Kawhi and Zu this summer too.
