If we stayed at the 3, and if the Lakers end up at the 6, it would be a death match first round. Most of the West would like to see the two giants beat each other up. However, we’re going to have to beat the current champs, and getting them when they are not 100% would be favorable to us.

I’m a little perturbed at resting Morris for this game. They just barely beat a woeful Rox club; could easily have been a loss.

Rest is important, but you gotta get the W’s when they are in reach.

Paul George had to play 34 minutes against the NBA’s worst team. What if he (or any major rotation player) got hurt? Then we’d be kicking ourselves.

Serge is solid enough all-around, and the Clips should feel good enough about their Morris-Batum small lineup, that I’m a little less worried about Zu fouls. Obviously he’s one of LAC’s best players and ideally he’d be going for 30+, but I think having someone as solid as Serge as the backup lets you have a “let Zu be Zu” strategy. If he picks up a couple early fouls, you can bring in Serge and still be fine, as opposed to last year (Trez was great all year but isn’t a real C defensively, so putting him in drastically changes you stylistically) or during this recent stretch (PatPat just isn’t good enough and Cousins is… weird).

Maybe in one game Zu is balling and stays out of foul trouble and gets 32 minutes and Serge only gets 16… then the next game, Zu picks up some fouls and is getting flustered and the split is like 20-28. Serge was the shakiest part of the starting unit early in the year but with Zu better filling that role, having him as a rotation backup becomes a big luxury that gives you a lot of options. This is the role I originally envisioned for Serge.
