• Zu had a great game with 21-12-3, but he was so good that the Clips should’ve given him enough touches to get to 40 points tonight. There were long stretches of this game when the team simply did not look for him (KPJ is a big reason for this)
• Kris Dunn is not a good offensive player. It was too much to ask him to play the point guard and be a scorer. He did a lot of great stuff defensively, but it was pretty much negated by his inability to make shots and be a multiplier effect on the floor. Recognizing his strengths on D and limitations on offense would’ve resulted in a better lineup of maybe Bones + Dunn in the backcourt to go with Norm, Zu, Batum.
• Kevin Porter Jr had an active game, but for all the attention he draws he doesn’t do a lot of dump off passes or passes to the 3 pt line. He calls his own number. The problem is when he’s looking for contested 2s and the other team is shooting 3s, you fall behind. That’s basically what happened to close Q2.
• Jordan Miller – how good was this guy? He was so good that he made Bones playable. He has real gravity on the court. Taking him out of the game in Q2 basically swung the game to Houston.
• Bones Hyland – Bones really isn’t a guy who is comfortable making decisions in the offense. He’s much more comfortable as a shooting guard or in a point guard set where he has a specific task to do in a set play. The decision making needed in a free flowing game is something he struggles with. But Bones can stretch the floor with his shot and when someone else is able to get him in rhythm (Miller, Zu and others tonight) he can be effective.
• Norm Powell had a bad game, his 2nd against the Rockets.
• The Rockets only make shots against us.
• I thought the Clips did a better job on the hustle stats tonight, but still got outrebounded badly. Clips got 10 more shots than the Rockets. Should’ve been enough to win but we fouled them too much and let the Rockets take another 41 3PAs. Clips have not played a good defensive game against that team this year.

For this team to improve, they have to recognize and exploit the matchups that are favorable to them and not go away from a hot hand or solid match up. They also have to figure out how they’re going to defend athletic teams.
