We should have traded for Lonzo when he was sucking earlier in the season

Considering we heard the Clips mentioned in Lonzo rumors earlier this season, I’m guessing that the FO tried to trade for Lonzo, but the Pelicans simply weren’t interested in any of our assets.

His trade value is at an all time low. We would either get nothing for him or we would have to attached more assets. Getting rid of Luke doesn’t fix our team. We need to develop him.

Our player development is not great. I wish it was a greater focus for this team. We need the ability to take assets and increase their value (like we did with Zu).

It’s too late for that. This team has no assets with which to tweak or make a big swing. The only things we can do at this point is hope to re-sign Leonard and shake things up a lot over the summer. If we can re-sign Leonard, the team will have 3 assets (in Leonard, PG and Zubac), and potentially 2 more in Beverley and Luke (if they could pick up their play, which isn’t too likely). There’s really not much else we could do.

We should have traded for Lonzo when he was sucking earlier in the season. Buying low is the only thing this team should hope to accomplish in a trade. Lonzo was a great buy low candidate earlier in the season (evidenced by his more recent play). I can’t think of any other good buy low candidates at the moment. Oladipo is pretty risky, and it’s not clear what houston would want for him.

We need to be a lot more patient with this team.

Except for the Shaq/Kobe Lakers, Spurs or Warriors, no one has been such a lock to be expected to win without adversity. Regular season — have to shore up our weaknesses, which will probably not be done via trade. Have to learn to win with the guys we have. I am confident that these coaches and players will adapt.

A Clippers team that has every reason to have a sense of something to prove repeatedly plays like a team with little to play for.

Can’t control makes and misses? Uh, you miss like that when you aren’t mentally focused. Opponents shoot uncharacteristically well when your defense takes a night off.

Again, where is the “chip on the shoulder”, competitive fire you would expect from a team that has been brutally criticized for its embarrassing collapse in the playoffs?

After a certain point of redundant poor efforts, I think you have to stop simply pointing out what they did wrong, and at least try to look deeper to understand why.

I am not concerned about him. I am more concerned with Serge. Zubac needs to be starting again and playing more minutes over Serge. Serge may be more skilled than Zubac, but he is not currently better than Big Zu.

If anything, the Kennard extension looks to be a mistake unless he can resurrect his play. Kennard needs to be traded at some point because he has been terrible.

Put Zu back in starting lineup, mook too. Batum can stretch floor for Lou to go to work in second unit. But you have to tinker because this is 7 losses in last 11 games. This is not a contending team w/ current rotations/roster.

  1. Pat Beverly continues to be our most valuable guard as our best perimeter defender who can shoot, rebound and pass a little. However, he is also our cryptonite in terms of his persistent failure to remain healthy for long stretches.
  2. Our frontcourt (Batum and Ibaka) look completely maxed out. Their performance has been declining overall. Perhaps it’s time to mix things up a little, Ty Lue! Let’s rember that Zu has proven his value as a starter and that Batum was supposed to be a temporary fix for the injured Morris. He has now played the 2nd most minutes, only behind Kawhi.
  3. Our superstars, Kawhi and PG are also going through some kind of slump. Kawhi mentioned consistency and even himself has started to show lack of it. PG has been different after that toe injury. They both lack intensity and they seem to think that iso-ball is what the team expects of them. I expect two of the best two-way players in the NBA that can impact the way in many other ways than just scoring.
  4. NONE, yes NONE of our bench players have stepped up in any meaningful way. Reggie has been valuable, but he was supposed to be our 4th guard, remember? Lou has been the closest in terms of overall performance but he has also had big unreliable stretches. Kennard only woke up in the last few games, including some garbage minutes, he needs to continue. Morris has been very dissapointing overall aside from the 3PT% which is more often hot/cold. Mann has evolved into a rotation player but overall his impact is still small. Zu has good nights, mediocre nights and nights he is invisible.
  5. Defensive intensity is not there. Most nights. Relying on our offense and stellar shooting. When have showed some good stretches, mostly with the starters, but overall, I don’t see it. I hope we are saving somthing good for the playoffs but at this point I don’t believe that.
  6. Rotation is starting to be predictable. On nights when shots are not falling or the team is clearly trailing, the best (on that moment) should play. Regardless of them being starters or their minutes being decided in advance.
  7. We need to make plans for the nights that we are shooting below par. Who should make what kind of shots and not necessarily iso ball.
  8. I know most are expecting a big transfer that would transform us but I just want to see a couple of peripheral moves, targetting high intensity defensive players.

Apologies for the novel. I am also (like many others) upset and worried.

We need results at this point!
