Not a great win.

Lopez doesn’t look good at all. If he gets the ball, he’s chucking it. The problem is, he isn’t making his shots.

Dunn needs to play more. The team is better with him on the floor as much as possible. He’s a smart player.

Why isn’t John Collins playing more? He’s better than I knew. Why isn’t he starting? Oh, I forgot, Ty Lue is still the coach.

Zu was at 1 point 5 for 6. After that, he barely saw the ball.

I can definitely see Beal getting back to form.

If I were Kobe Brown, I would be shooting a lot in his limited minutes. He’s now auditioning.

Flip DJJ and Collins on the starting 5.

Look for Norm to go off in the Miami game.

That’s all I can say. A lot of smh stuff in this game. Lue is still practicing basketball terrorism, limiting John Collins, playing small starting lineups with disjointed perimeter defense and poor weak side rebounding. The squad can’t handle any dribble pressure at all. Brook Lopez looks more and more like a souped up version of Drew Eubanks, but with worse shot selection. Beal is not ready to be a starter.

  • Ty Lue – Starting unit was predictably terrible and we got in an early hole. The lack of size invited Zion to attack, which required more overplay, which resulted in wide, wide open 3s, which the Pels hit a lot of. Then, in the 2nd half, the lack of size and the general buffoonery of Brook Lopez led Zion to get in rhythm.
  • Zu – fantastic in the first half and then the team forgot about him. Like why? That assist he had to DJJ at the end of the game for a big bucket was a thing of beauty. Still, my man had a double-double with 3 blks and that big time assist.
  • James – what can you say about the guy? He’s the 2nd or 3rd best Clipper player in franchise history. He plays hard, is an offensive machine and wills the offense to perform. If we could combine his ability to attack with the dribble and PnR at the rim, with a second or third ball handler and connector on the wing, this offense would be lights out. James’ passing to the wing needs to be more accurate, but you can’t fault his willingness to put this team on his back. He covers up a lot of Ty Lue’s mistakes and tinkering.
  • Kawhi – a good scoring game from Kawhi; excellent shooting down the stretch, and also 6 steals. The defense was overall mid b/c he was playing the #4 when he’s better suited to the #3 against teams with size, especially punishing size like Zion. His ball handling and floor vision need to improve. Both Kawhi and James need to move the ball more with the pass and not the dribble. I will say that Kawhi’s movement without the ball was very good, and his initiative to take advantage of DJJ’s late dribble push and curl around him to get that pass for the game winning shot is exactly the type of basketball I’ve envisioned him playing.
  • DJJ – excellent game. Highlight reel of dunks in this game alone, but that last dribble push to get past the press and then the hold up play to give time for Kawhi to get open while keeping the dribble alive and protecting the ball was terrific basketball. He plays well at the crib.
  • Collins – He was a +14 at one point in the first half when LAC climbed out of a hole to take a lead. He makes the game so easy for the entire squad. Play the man. You’re certainly paying him. A front line of Kawhi, Collins, Zu makes this team top 3 caliber. But Ty won’t play them together.
  • Brook Lopez – Was terrible. I’m at the point where I don’t think he should get much floor time. Get Collins up to 30 min and keep Brook at 10. He can get to 15 min if he scores early.
  • Dunn – solid, though committed too many fouls and get burned on a few too many 3s. Still, he should be up at 30 min (not 23).
  • Beal – Was bad in the first half. Looked a little better in the 2nd half. Should not start. Dunn should get that spot, but there is some upside for Beal.
  • CP3 – looked a little better in his 9 mins. He’s limited but is figuring out what he can do to help.

We still suck and need to play much better to beat Miami. We’re nowhere near ready to face OKC.

And the curse didn’t come back to haunt us tonight. I have nothing critical to say about Ty other than he probably played Lopez too long in each of his stretches. Two days off and then it’s Miami so all we can hope is that everyone recognizes what the strengths and weaknesses are. J Dub and Chet likely out Tuesday so we might not get totally destroyed in that one.

He’s like an unstoppable freight train–a young bully ball Lebron. I can just see it now: Zion destroying our small ball guys, us getting in a big hole and Ty standing on the sidelines, arms crossed with a sickening look. Have seen that look so many times before and I am “sick” of it.
I guess Ty’s assistants are either
–just yes men,
–afraid to speak up or
–Ty let’s them have their say and ignores them.

I don’t know which door to choose from.
