One thing continues to be a strange mystery: the free-throw shooting. I don’t recall it ever having been this bad before. Could pore over past season stats but nah. The Celtics were a perfect 26 for 26 today.

The first solid game of the season start to finish. How about that nice young man from Croatia? This TV broadcast duo is horrendous, ignoring entire stretches of play to spout self-referential nonsense and go off on tangents about other teams and players. It’s as if they’d rather talk about anything other than the game. I’ve watched pro sports for decades and have never seen anything like this.

Btw, I don’t want to give up anything for Myles Turner. Overrated dude. If Clips are trading for another big, it should be someone like Clint Capela, a big dude who can set screens, finish at the rim, run the floor and provide no defensive drop off when Zu is on the bench.

Fun game for a Clips fan. I tend to look for two things when watching the Clips: Zu making his put backs and finishing at the rim when a guard/forward is double teamed and Reggie getting going early. We got the former but not the latter. Zu had a game for the ages, 31/29/3. Only about 11 NBA players have ever been 25-25-3. His plus game made things a lot easier for everyone else.

As for Reggie, he seemed very determined to move the ball and work things to get shots for Mann, Powell, Morris. On that measure he was effective, as those guys got the quality shots that they didn’t get vs Denver, but I’d really like to see him get into double figures. Clips basically have an 80%+ winning percentage when he scores in double figures. Well, we didn’t need an A game from Reggie today but we will need 1 or 2 on the upcoming road trip.

Wall had a good game, and I’d say a much more effective game than the 20+ game he had vs Denver. He had much better balance on looking for his shot and using that drive to get shots for others. Mann is really emerging as a guy who is consistently looking for his shot and getting his points from all angles on the floor. Powell got 19 shots instead of 8 and that was a big difference in the game (in addition to Zu doing his best prime Shaq impression).

Morris wasn’t efficient but every shot he hit seemed pivotal. Batum has been very solid for about the last 2 weeks now. Moses Brown also kept things going with his size while Zu was on the bench.

Clips are now 1-2 since Kawhi/PG both went down. Clips have Portland, Utah, Sac this week. If they can go 2-1 this week, they’d be 3-3 in the ‘no PG/Kawhi’ games, which would be pretty decent.
