Well, Orlando is anyways – that team is also ridiculously dirty. And in response, Tatum straight up said if the refs aren’t gonna control the game a fight is probably gonna break out because it’ll be on the players to take matters into their own hands. Anyone who has ever played pickup ball knows what happens when you get that one guy on the court who does covert dirty stuff – you kick him outta the game, and/or you do what you gotta do to make sure he understands his shitheadery is not tolerated.

I understand and love the physicality the playoffs bring, but there’s a pretty clear line between recklessly (or intentionally) hurting dudes and playing defense on every possession. Plus, even if that line isn’t clear in real-time, the league has the power to look at plays after the fact, with the aid of much better video tech than we had in the 90s.

The least they could do is suspend Dort a game or two – especially since that series is already over, thanks in large part to him.

Otherwise he’s just gonna keep doing this shit because he hasn’t faced any consequences, so why would he stop?

Lebron was outstanding, but Luka was sick and Minnesota, after playing dumb ball for about half the game, figured out how to attack the LAL small lineup.

I’m kinda hoping LAL beats Minnesota because that’s probably the team that scares me the most in this tournament. They have a lot of bodies to throw at you; they’re physical; they have size and complementary shot makers who always seem to get magnet ball hot against us; and they have Ant, who has quietly been one of the better Q4/clutch time players this year. The stuff he did against LAL tonight is pretty much what he has done in most of their contested wins. He’s not as efficient overall, but he’s made his game more effective b/c he will shoot that 3. He’s given up the midrange for the 3, because he can get to the rim easily. If we were to play them, we’d have to put him in the dunngeon and drive him off the 3 pt line, use Zu to contest at the rim, and make him settle for the midrange.

I think the Lakers can even the series with Lebron playing that well. JJ just has to get off this kick about playing small and being predictable; Lakers need to take care of the ball when securing rebounds in the back court; and they need better shot selection.

No. He’s in the category above that. He’s right there w/ the Bad Boys, Draymond, Bruce Bowen, and Karl Malone – in terms of dirtiness anyways, not talent. Dude has a history of straight up injuring dudes on plays that were entirely pointless – there’s no way he’s securing the rebound from Paul George, he wasn’t stopping Ja on the fastbreak w/o hurting him, he punched Gafford in the groin, had a bunch of dirty shenanigans on Luka, the list goes on. And as Khyber points out, his dirtiness is far and away his biggest strength. Sure he can shoot a bit, and when he isn’t hurting dudes his defense is good, but we all know where he makes his money.

The NBA should’ve suspended him a long time ago to send a message, but this shit’s just gonna keep happening in the meantime.

P.S. I didn’t like PBev either, but I legit can’t think of an instance of him being particularly dirty while he was on the Clippers – I realize I sound like a homer, but I can’t think of any instances of Clippers PBev that straight up went out there to hurt a dude (other than his cheap shove on CP3, which is a different category since it’s outside of a play).

I will say this. I had been wanting Denver for months while many thought this was suicidal. I knew Zu could play Bill Russell to Joker’s Chamberlain and slow him down just enough for the rest of our team to get them. I predicted that we would win in 5-6 games. I wasn’t worried at all after we lost game 1 because I knew we’d get a split there. I also predicted that we would blow them out badly in game 3, and that their locker room would begin to unravel (see Joker’s sideline tirade at Adleman). Let’s see if my next prediction comes true with us winning game 4 perhaps by not as much but still comfortably to go up 3-1. If that happens I’m going Clips in 5 because Joker will check out mentally and Kawhi will go for the throat because he realizes (just like he did in game 82 vs the Warriors and game 2 of this series) the importance of NOT getting bogged down in a long series with OKC resting to pounce on us.

I took the time to rewatch the OKC grizzlies game and also our game 3 last night and there may be a reality where we can compete with them. I know that Chet and J-Will didn’t play in that last game, but our game plan was effective and we likely would have won without that terrible no-call when Zu got fouled at the end. We are far better now than we were then and in a slower paced playoff game there may be matchups to exploit. They don’t have anyone who can guard Kawhi and he should have his way in that series. I can also see Dunn, Kawhi and DJJ disrupting their perimeter passing schemes and Zu roughing them up inside. OKC should rightfully be favored. But a month ago I would have had them sweeping us and now I’m not so sure about that.

Let’s get game 4 tomorrow so my predictions continue to manifest lol.

I don’t think he does much for you on the court unless he’s physically beating up opponents on defense. I don’t think it’s an accident that these things happen just when it looks like a game is headed south or in the balance for OKC. That’s when he nut punched Harden, karate chopped PG, and knocked Luka down repeatedly. He did that to Ja when they were on track to getting embarrassed and their aura as this statistical juggernaut was about to get exposed. I think Dort knows that he wouldn’t be in the NBA if he wasn’t dirty in situations that help his team. Draymond wrote the book on it, but Dort is as blatant.

So, yeah, if the NBA won’t police that dude, other teams will have to do it. Edey started keying on Dort yesterday and I expect Memphis is going to have something to say to him in Game 4. If we end up playing OKC, we are going to have to send messages, the basketball equivalent of a brush back pitch. I guarantee you if we have some momentum in a key game in that series, Lu Dort is going to strike. No one is going to tell him to do it. He just knows that’s how and why he gets paid in the NBA.

What you describe is exactly why we used to see things escalate in the old days with some fairly gruesome retaliations like Karl Malone’s elbow to Isaiah Thomas’ face.

They come to see Ja Morant. Protect the players we all want to see. Ja was cooking in that game and was leading his team to an inspiring win at home as the 8 seed over the #1 seed.

Send a message that attempts to take out athletes with kicks, jabs, football style hits and other non-basketball maneuvers will be penalized. NFL has made strides in this area with respect to protecting the QB, and to a far less effective extent, protecting players against head shots. NBA can address this too,
