Well, if you trade Serge then the calculus definitely changes based on a) if any roster spots are freed up and b) what player(s) you receive for him and at what position(s).

If you did the Serge for Robert Covington trade that has been mentioned, you’d be less likely to keep Gabriel around, I think, since you’d be getting another player who is best at PF. But if you traded Serge + Winslow for a guard and lost depth at PF and C while creating a roster spot, you might think about keeping Gabriel on the 15-man roster as a guy who can play PF and C in a pinch.

To me, the question isn’t who is better, it is it is worth having a guy good as Serge can be buried on your depth chart if you can move him for assets? Or someone making as much $ as Serge buried on your depth chart if you can get someone that would give you similar production (ie. mostly DNPs when everyone is healthy) for the minimum? (the second question less important to us fans, but maybe important to Ballmer?)

Obviously maybe the COVID year changes the equation a bit as depth may be more important than ever. Will be interesting if we start seeing guys miss multiple stints on the COVID list. You would assume not without a new variant, but who knows how long that would take. With the NBA’s luck, probably right around the start of the playoffs.

At the dawn of Lob City, CP would take his teammates and their families out for bowling nights and such. It was a promising beginning. But there was at first the looming presence of racist weirdo Donald Sterling until he was banished to hell, followed by all the bitter playoff choke jobs and injuries. Doc, the guy who lucked into a single title with the powerful 2008 Celtics (should have won at least one more), played favorites and froze like a possum in headlights during big runs by opponents. Lob City had the horses to win it all, but the whole thing was doomed.

He was probably better than Serge last night just by virtue of Serge being really rough, but I would still call Wenyen more “intriguing” than “impressive.” Some impressive plays but pretty chaotic overall, often out of control, and 5 fouls in 14 minutes. Serge has had a really rough week but we are not far removed from a pair of games against Sacramento and Denver where he looked pretty good and was much better than Gabriel’s performance vs Brooklyn last night. I’m also a little wary of putting Wenyen ahead of Serge at the C depth chart because Serge has much more legit size for an NBA 5.
