When you re-watch the game, I think it’s clear within the first half that it’s the perfect game to go small. AND that Russ is perfectly suited to be a part of it. Lue recognised it indeed

Hands Down: game ball goes to Hustle Russ. His hustle and energy never gets equated into the analytics, but without a doubt the key catalyst for keeping us in the game and eventually coming back in the end. Among the minority who actually likes the “timed” Harden and Russ pairings, as our big two came back alive in the 4th after shaking off the 4-day hangover: PG made a key 3 point shot to sustain momentum, and Kawhi took us home with that Robo-Jordan dominant stretch to close the game and avoid us being the 9th team to lose after such a long layoff (coming in, teams were 1-8 this season after a 4+ game break). Can’t say I’m overly ecstatic with this win, but a dub is a dub and the young Nets were shooting like they didn’t care.

How many teams have started out down16-0 or worse and have come back to win, let alone by double digits? Can’t be more than 2-3 other examples.

Great ending, not a great game. I was in attendance and was tempted to leave early at around the 6 minute mark.. I hung in there and I’m glad i stayed. The nets played with energy and couldn’t miss up until that point. We saw the true value of Russ and James tonight when 213 didn’t have it. Russ’ energy catapulted us to victory tonight. I heard KL was under the weather but he had enough to close it out. Go Clips!

I overslept and didn’t go to the game. When I woke up and started watching I was glad, but by the end I wished I was there!! Great effort Russ! Kawhi went nuclear once the game was in the balance. 14 points in the last 4 minutes.

I can’t believe we won that game. I was supposed to go to the game but my flight back to LA got cancelled so I had to rebook for later and sell the tix. Had to fly into SD (no flights to LA) and drive back to LA. Had the game on during the drive back and it was just miserable to listen to/watch. Got home by mid Q3 and it still sucked b/c Brooklyn was just shot chucking at that point but everything was going in. First part of Q4 sucked too, and I really thought when we were down -11 with 5 to go that we were going to come up shot b/c Cam Thomas was in his bag and he could get buckets.

Then, I think Lue deserves credit for going small and changing the defensive match up to put PG on Thomas. That exposed the Nets because they don’t have good ball handlers and shot creators if you can get Thomas out of rhythm. The offensive explosion ensued like Mount Vesuvius. Pg/Kawhi finally woke up to put the game away, but the bulk of the effort came from Russ and Harden. This game encapsulated why the fans love Russ. When no one else feels like playing, he brings the big time effort. He dragged this team off life support and gave them a shot.

That said, I can’t picture Jokic losing a game like this. He has such a level of intensity and perfectionism that is MJ level. Our top 2 stars were quite ready to mail it in for most of this game, but Russ just wouldn’t let them lose. You have games like this in the NBA season, but if you’re looking at things like seedings and home court advantage, there’s just no margin for error. Glad we won.
