This team is sadly not what we all thought it could be. Poor coaching (head coach and staff), roster, rotations, playing time, yada yada blah blah.

I was at the game and it was very frustrating to watch (obviously), so I’m going to rant:

On the post game radio broadcast driving home (Noah Eagle?), he said “the Mavs responded to the double teams my finding a wide open shooter”. So that’s pretty smart.

Rant: Why can’t the Clips be smart! Now, I’m not a basketball strategy savant like a lot of you folks. But the squad that the Mavs rolled out is not a great defensive team. So why couldn’t the Clips manipulate and take advantage of the defense in the same way? Isn’t that what a coaching staff is there for?

In the end, the Mavs scored 110 points. That’s not a huge offensive output especially considering the 1st quarter explosion. So not an overall defensive failure. A competent offense could have won that game.

As I said in an earlier post, this was really the 7th game of a 7 game roadtrip, since they had to travel 3000 miles. So maybe they not sufficiently rested. But I’m not 100% convinced of that.

No energy or defense in the first quarter. Ironically, the Clippers would’ve been better off starting the 2nd unit over the first. That’s how bad the first unit was. Kawhi looked tired most of the game and used Q1 as a light aerobic workout. PG’s legs aren’t there and it showed against a competitive Dallas team that executed offense and defense at playoff level. Still, we were only 2-3 possessions short of a win. This is one of those games where Ty Lue’s poor roster management came back to bite them. A Luke Kennard who is confident and in form would’ve made 3-4 threes and elevated the Clips above the Mavs. I’ve been a big Marcus Morris fan, but Ty Lue has overused and overplayed him and he’s a liability defensively, especially later in games. Why he closes over Zu makes no sense. I do think the Clips need to make moves today to get 2 forwards who will play above Marcus in crunch time. I still like Q1 Marcus, though. He’s often ready to play and make his shot (even if he didn’t do so tonight). Still, gotta make some moves given what is going on.

What an embarrassment this was. I am so over PG. Immense talent mixed with terrible decision-making. Trade him over the summer because this KL-PG marriage is over. The parts do not fit. This team has ZERO chance of winning a championship.

I also feel sorry for Luke. Since he has been here Lue has either totally not used him or misused him. Is it any wonder Luke is tentative when playing?

Batum and Morris are done.

Our offense totally sucks. The Mavs zipped the ball everywhere to get a completely open shot. Our offense is PG trying to go against 5 or KL trying the same. It’s not only ineffectual, it’s freaking boring.
