Reggie played well. His energy at the end of Q2 and the beginning of Q4 is a big reason why the Clips won the game.

Not the best win of the season but the most important one. We have real issues with pace still. Half court offense is probably the most important come playoff time so working toward that is probably smart. But Terence has got to play downhill if he’s in the game and stop looking over his shoulder for “permission” all the time. What a travesty that RoCo was benched for half the season. Whatever funk Reggie is in I hope he can snap out of it.

Covington at 21 mins was pretty good to see. Zu needs to stay on the court and needs to be more efficient in the paint with his touches. T-Mann wasn’t that impactful today. Has to stop settling for jumpers and really look to attack the rim off of the double teams of Kawhi. Kawhi is one of the top 5 scorers in the league and the Clips are going to get constant double teams. There is no reason why the Clips can’t outscore the opponent by 12 points in the first quarter. We still suck at Q1s even though we won it by 2 pts today.

Shout out to Marcus Morris, another much maligned player, who bodied Luka better than any defender we had on the court today. Only 2/7 shooting but if you watched the game, he made Luka look guardable. I’d still like to see his minutes come down to around the 24/game level to keep him fresh, but today we probably needed him for all 31 mins.

Reggie provided a big time energy boost to start Q4. Covington also played well in that stretch. That scrambling defense is what gave the team separation. There was a play where Reggie guarded Luka, got switched out, rushed to the 3 pt line to effectively challenge a shot and the team got the rebound and a bucket at the other end. That’s the kind of play we need more of.

Norm Powell, whom I’ve criticized a lot, played his best game today from the offensive side of the ball against a set half court defense. He often gets his points in fast break or ball push situations or corner 3s. In Q4, he used his dribble to weave his way through the set defense to get his shot off. That is something that could be very valuable for us against tough opponents and in the playoffs.

Q4 Kawhi was a monster. A coast to coast layup and ripping the ball out of 4 players to dribble back behind the 3 pt line and sink a 3 with the shot clock running out. That’s closer stuff.

That 33-19 Q4 is really one of the best performances we’ve had as a team. For 2 games in a row, Reggie has featured as a key player in that crucial first 4-5 min stretch of Q4 when Kawhi sits. That might be a big part of the answer to winning against tough opponents.
