But if the Mavs win, they tie us in the W column—who to root for?

But if there’s an opportunity to reboot the franchise with a young star, it becomes tempting. I’m just throwing wild ideas around like I always do.

I’d call him more of a “reliable veteran who you know what you’ll get from every time he’s in the game”

If anything I’d think the players probably want to keep things mostly as-is since the team is rolling. Like I don’t think pro athletes look around the locker room and think “if only we had [ some other guy] instead of [a teammate ]” unless they have specific beef (e.g. Draymond and Poole). So I don’t think the attitude is gonna change if we don’t get Giannis – I’d be more worried about physically guys’ bodies breaking down…specifically Kawhi and Harden.

Break up the new found chemistry? I don’t think Big Steve would let that happen–he knows the fans love those guys.

The one thing still dogging us is a lack of downhill ball handler. James’ probing style brings a wonderful floor, but throughout his career he gets blitzed in the playoffs and is neutralized. We already know Kawhi struggles when double teamed. If we want to seriously make a playoff run we are going to need an energetic and crisp starting 2 guard to pair with James. This player must be able to do it all including POA defense, attack the paint, and nail threes. A lot to ask I know, but that player might be Mathurin. Jordan and/or Sanders plus DJ might be enough to snag him. He’s only 23 so I might entertain draft capital too.

The poor man’s version of this would be Cole Anthony. Could basically get him for free. I know there’s a lot of smoke about Coby white and Sexton which I wouldn’t hate. But neither seems to have a particularly high IQ which would ultimately place the ball and minutes back in James’ hands.

This game act as a learning curve for the young guys.
They will find out what they should or shouldn’t do.
These guys are smart and fearless, they will figure it out.
So now we have leading stars (Kawhi & James), Elite Bigs (Zu & Collins), up and coming dudes (Sanders & Miller), Vet Bigs (Brook & Batum), defensive duo (Dunn & DJJ-when healthy) and young blood (Yanic & Cam).
That’s 10+2 rotations guys. Bogi & Brown also have specific role they can slot-in. Not bad for a retirement home.

Terrific interview from our rookie.
We’ve got a squad now.

So, what happens with the team ‘tude if only minor changes happen going forward. Do you see reverting to laziness and complacency? Or, keep on keeping on?
