Frank has made so many terrible moves, but the real crushing blow to this era was the Harden trade. I knew it was a horrible idea back when it was first rumored in the previous offseason. Harden’s stats are nice and all, but he’s done nothing for us in terms of actually winning anything, he’s already 35 and the draft capital we gave up just extends our misery that much further for what’s been a treadmill team in the present. And we also got saddled with Tucker’s contract and attitude as part of the deal. When we finally dumped him, one of the picks we had to give up was then used to get the Luka trade done.

The Harden trade is a microcosm of everything wrong with the Clippers under this front office. Negotiating from a position of not just weakness, but desperation, stockpiling the biggest names of ten years ago when they’re aging out, giving away draft picks like candy and having it backfire on them. Their process is terrible and the results are mediocre. They need to go.

I would have fired Frank years ago, and certainly think he should be fired now, but let’s at least try to be realistic with our criticism: PG had no trade value anymore by the time we finally decided to move on from him. The Warriors weren’t giving us the Jimmy Butler return, they were offering all their worst contracts and nothing else. We couldn’t start a bidding war because nobody else wanted to trade for him either. And re-signing PG to the contract he wanted would have been disastrous, as the Sixers are finding out now. Letting him walk wasn’t ideal, but it was the best option we had.

That was embarassing.

Kawhi looked terrible. He also looked uninterested. I don’t like what I’m seeing.

The more minutes Kawhi plays, the worse the Clippers play.

If the Clippers can trade him, I would. It isn’t going to get better.

We saw what the warriors did in 2022 with cagey vets, coaching and role players so nothing is impossible. But I think what strikes the nerve for most of us is that this hill shouldn’t be as steep as it is to climb.

Could we not have used the few picks we had to do better than Kobe Brown?

Could we not have sent Mann out to Philly instead of burning another 1st round pick?

Could we have been better off signing and trading PG for some assets rather than tying up $35 million per year in Harden?

With restraint in this latter move alone we could have taken back a 1st and Wiggins and still had the flexibility to sign DJJ and make all the other maneuvers we ultimately did.

The players and ownership aren’t responsible for this. Management is. That’s who I’m coming down on.

I am also a Liverpool fan.
Man, my teens years were rough.
Those United Ferguson’s team drive me nuts.
Then you have Arsenal’s Invincible, London’s Oligarch (sorry for my language). And then it’s City.
Oh and don’t get me started on Gerrard’s slip….
I wait 30 years before that pandemic title.
I felt relieved, not Joy, to be honest. You can tell yourself that you don’t make a wrong choice when you choose a team to cheer for when you were kids.

I hope one day I can feel the same with this team.
But the perfect scenario is it should surprise you.
If we fight against all odds and go to the top as an underdog. That would make it feel so good.
…
That’s why I love how we build the team this year.
Batum, DJJ, Dunn, Coffey and now Eubank, Mills or Zu, T-Mann, even Norm.
They have been overlooked, underrated or even under-appreciated all their professional life.
I hope they prove doubters wrong.

The only intrigue left now is what type of zombie team we can cobble together in the buyout and try to punch our way out of the play in. Middleton could be interesting provided we can load manage Kawhi’s knee that far.

Kawhi looked frustrated in Toronto and a shambles against the Lakers. Not heartening. I know he wants to compete and I still greatly appreciate his joining our team. But it is what it is now.

I guess I’m a contrarian. 🙂
It would be funny if all we’ve done in this trade deadline is to set Tucker free and get back 1 reserve big and a vet guard then go on a deep playoffs run “IF” our stars are finally healthy throughout.
Man, I lost all expectation after that epic meltdown in the Bubble.
You never knows what awaits you in life.
If things go well, that’s fine.
If it’s not, you always have another chance next time.
I believe Ballmer wants to win so bad, but I guess he also have some perspective into it too.
I love being an underdog. Proving people wrong is fun, at least for me.
It’s long ride, buckle up and let’s see how it goes.
