I actually don’t get why the driving principle behind this team isn’t moving the ball and cutting behind double teams to play more 4 v 2 when teams want to blitz Harden/Kawhi. This team literally has high percentage shooters all over the court. If Kawhi gets blitzed, you have Harden, PG, Mann, Norm, Coffey, Zu, all of whom are high percentage shooters. Why aren’t we committing to ball movement, letting 7 guys put up 8 to 15 shots and putting 140 points on the board and destroying teams? Why are we using so much of the shot clock just to get the big 3 a look. Let them go earn their shots with moving into space and winning their 1 v 1 match ups.

I see no reason why this team can’t be an un-guardable juggernaut by the start of the playoffs. Tell Kawhi/James to stop pounding the ball, and start moving without it.

I know the stats say our defensive rating has been very bad of late, but I really don’t think it’s the defense. When Zu is on the court we’re an elite defensive team. When he’s off we’re terrible. But the reason we’re terrible is because our stars aren’t generating enough shots per possession for the team because they’re holding the ball too long and we’re using too much of the clock. In our 2nd unit, Russ is giving away too many possessions and the worst part is the opportunity cost. Every shot Russ takes is one that Powell, Kawhi, Coffey, Mann, Zu and others didn’t get to take.

These are very fixable issues for Ty Lue. I see no reason why we can’t have a double digit net rating, and it really starts with the offensive mindset.
