As disappointing and up-and-down as this season feels (ALL of the top8 players have played at least 65 games, we most definitely had a shot to challenge for one of the top spots), the value of avoiding the play-in and having time to prepare for your playoff opponent is not to be underestimated for a veteran roster.

Cleveland got curb stomped by the Lakers. Mitchell is unlikely to play tomorrow vs the Clips. This Cleveland team is 8-12 since March 1. They’ve not been a good basketball team even though they basically didn’t lose a game from Jan 1 to the All Star Break. I don’t think they’ve ever figured out what their optimal rotation is when everyone is healthy. Garland is short. Mobley can be up and down. Allen is solid. Then it’s a string of rotation players who are sometimes off and on, depending on whether Mitchell or Garland is at the helm. Some perform better when Mitchell is on. Others, when Garland is on.

Not saying it will be an easy game b/c of the talent that’s on that roster, but this is a winnable game against an opponent that hasn’t played very well. They’re #23 in net rating over the past 15 games and are 28th in the league in defense over that stretch (worse than us). We, frankly, should be able to win it by a clear margin.

Kawhi already ruled out again against Cleveland tomorrow. Gonna be a tough game, even though Cleveland got their heads stomped in by the Lakers today. Mobley + Allen is a bad matchup for us.

Pretty physical game today between Cavs and Lakers. Maybe we catch Cavs a little weary. Need Houston to trip up Mavs. Dallas fans already talking shit about them beating is.

2 wins in a row and things look much better. Amazingly, we are 7-3 in the last 10 games.
I guess if he’s healthy, Kawhi will play 1 or 2 games before regular season ends.
Re: Harden, maybe he also knows that he’s in a slump so he might want to play through it.
We always let the young guys play the last game. So the vets will get 1 week off, including play-in stuffs, before playoffs start.
Hope we are ready, health-wise, for the postseason run.
This might be the last chance of 213 era to get it done.
Let’s see how it goes.

After watching some of this, I switched back to Iowa-UConn. The ladies put on quite a show, though the way it ended wasn’t great. As Harden goes, so go the Clippers? Lazy Harden is once again focused, disciplined Harden? A rather encouraging effort.

Beating this Cavs team without Kawhi will be a heavier lift than beating Denver was. They are an Eastern conference team with that gritty defensive mindset that’s been giving us problems, younger, taller, and better athletically overall too. We haven’t an answer for Allen and Mobley and garland is fast as hell and we know what Mitchell can do. Struss is a sniper from deep too. Perhaps we catch a break and they are forced to sit some guys after the Lakers game. But they will also get a ton of reps up on our rims against the Lakers so they could get hot from three.

This game is going to tell us if we’ve truly found something or if we revert back to the mediocrity we’ve been seeing since the Allstar break.

They win this one THEN I’ll start upping their ceiling.

I still firmly believe that Harden’s slight tweaks (caring a tiny bit on defense and not completely bogging down the offense/sharing ball handling duties and occasionally passing the ball quickly) reap massive results. His play, including his energy levels seem to be at the core of how we play.

I never know that. Could understand the first long stint after the great start. But the 38 minutes yesterday and anything even exceeding 30, let alone 35 when he was both playing poorly and negatively affecting both offense and defense is beyond me.

The only part I understand is Bones not taking his minutes. Russ, Mann, Norm, Amir however can totally fill in when he plays poorly. The youngsters can fill in in a blowout
