The Rockets got him for NOTHING. Turning NOTHING + what I assume to be a not so high pick into Norm Powell is pretty sweet.

Here’s where you might be wrong about what the Rockets might be willing to give us for Norm. If the Rockets simply cut Kevin Porter Jr. they get zilch. Houston is not a destination players are flocking to unless they are offered an overpay. See Fred VanFleet, Dillon Books, Jeff Green. To most teams Norms contract is undesirable, but for the Rockets you’re turning an unplayable criminal into the runner up for 6th man 2023. Same position. Now how much that’s worth, I’m uncertain. But it’s worth something.

Watching Covington out there and furious all over again that Ty didn’t play him last year. Our defense and rebounding are vastly improved across the board and making the Jazz look like fools. Whatever they’re drinking now I like it. Kawhi looks like he can’t mis from deep now.

Guarding the point of attack is a fascinating question indeed. To me, Mann should clearly be the starter, also because he’s more reliable. In my opinion, RoCo starting is completely matchup-related, a test how to deal with very big lineups (Denver and Milwaukee also come to mind)

1. Don’t think norm gets us any picks , let alone a first rounder.
2. Why Houston gives up 1st rounder and pick swap
Just to have another team cut KPJ
After this season when the rockets themselves can do it?
Actually at trade deadline , rockets can shop him as an expiring and not have to give up anything to “beg” a team to take him!

Woj gave us some good stuff on the state of the Harden trade rumors.

Clips are offering expiring salaries, a first round pick and a first round pick swap. That’s it. They’re not going to increase their offer b/c they’re the only ones bidding for JH.

This tells me they’re not offering Norm. He’s not an expiring contract. It looks like it would be Morris + either Batum or Covington + Coffey + 1st round pick + pick swap.

Morey might not want Norm, but I think he would be a very good fit for Philly with Nurse and Embiid. That said, Norm might be getting moved to get more favorable picks that Morey would like. He reportedly doesn’t trust that the Clips under Ballmer would ever be bad enough to have a high draft pick. He wants them to trade for picks from a crappy team (like Houston).

I feel like this deal could be closer to happening. Houston could package Kevin Porter Jr to the Clips with an attractive pick + pick swap, which the Clips could then move to Philly. I don’t know what would happen with Porter Jr.

That said, I’m ok with not getting Harden so long as Morris is not getting minutes on the floor. Norm can be very effective as this year’s iteration of Lou Will/J Crawford.
