I like that guy but we are neither playing our best lineups nor best players the most minutes. Now that the important games come up, that’s asking for a lot of trouble and additional losses. Can’t wait for the Memphis game, especially how ready they look to fight for the win in a game that will definitely be tough

Well, either his motivational tactics or the embarrassment of the losing streak I guess. You’re right though – Monty has made some very questionable decisions, at best. Can’t believe the Pistons made him the highest paid coach in the league after he had already turned them down.

That’s really on Lue. Either he gets PG to be more engaged with Kawhi out, gets Harden to spray the ball more to the wings early, or he’ll have to make a move. I think Lue just wants to get through December with a shot to be +7 over .500 which would be a remarkable finish given where we started this month.

Monty had Cade guarding Tatum and Porzingis in Q4/OT and had him run the offense with few, if any, screens to shake Jrue and White. PJ on the court could really help Monty be a better coach and just put a body on folks to make life a little easier for Cade. I don’t know that Monty deserves to keep his job, tbh.

Hear that? That’s the sound of opportunity knocking. PJ could help whip that locker room into shape!

Seem to be significant factors when it comes to rebounding (along with strength, athleticism and positioning of course).

Jason Kidd is probably the closest comparison to Russ. Very similar physical build, great anticipation. Russ needs 565 rebounds to pass him (Kidd has played almost 12.000 minutes more). When we factor in minutes played, I think it’s Russ, the Big O, Jason Kidd, in that order. And of course super-sized guards like Luka are gonna be competition. I think Luka will actually pass Russ because Westbrook only averaged 5 boards over his first six seasons before taking it to this level.

Unfortunately, the lockdown unit is a myth, especially when it comes to unfavorable matchups (big teams, good offensive rebounding teams that are also able to draw Zu out, smart teams like OKC that forced a ton of bad defensive rotations, teams with big wings like the Knicks…).

Opponents are 8.3 points better on offense when Coffey is on the floor and 9.5 points better when Mann is on the floor. I think you’re overrating Coffey’s defense quite a bit. Mann is a great defender. But he has dropped off recently as well. What’s more, neither is a good rebounder (for their position) and when playing together, one shifts up to small forward while PG plays the 4, exacerbating the rebounding issue. Third, we are losing the turnover battle with both on the court (in addition to poor offense, further hurting us on both ends).

The adjustment you ask for on offense:

1) How long does it take? How many games we don’t need to lose will it cost us? Now, that one of our most critical stretches is coming up and quite some of those games count double because we face direct competition in the standings.
2) How realistic is your approach? Lue already made his comments with regards to Mann. And Coffey has had a single game where he provided decent scoring volume and good spacing. Both are slumping, have big defensive responsibilities and have rarely to never had so much offensive responsibility. In case of Mann, Lue doesn’t even want it, translating to: we continue to play 3-on-5 or ‘Amir needs to be a volume scorer’. To call it optimistic is an understatement.

Have you factored in any of this?

The alternative: multiple lineup options that have proven to be about 25 points per 100 better (and make more sense from a logical stand point). Lineups we can use NOW that we are going to need wins vs Lakers, Suns etc

His body might be able to handle things. I don’t expect he will play another back to back this season, however.

That tells you that he’s not likely to play tmrw vs Memphis. My guess is it will be a 3 week absence from the date of injury: 1 week to recovery from the inflammation; 2 weeks to strengthen the area, and 1 week of conditioning to get back into game shape. That would put his return at Jan 10. That means he’ll miss another 6 games.
