On the other hand, the fact that they have never at any point looked like they had any NBA-caliber skills also feels bad because it feels like our FO doesn’t know how to draft big men…

I’m always rooting for Clipper development players to blossom and make the rotation, but it’s tough. Amir Coffey is kind of the gold standard. Jordan Miller is going to work out for us, I think. Moussa was close, but couldn’t quite get over the hump. He could have gotten a lot more run during the Moses Brown/Marcus Morris era, but he wasn’t going to solve any Clipper problems this year.

My big fear with guys who are good but aren’t getting run and might not be good enough is that they go to another team and they’re great. The Clippers have worked their way through a whole lot of marginal players, and it’s hard to think of anybody who blossomed elsewhere. The prime example is probably Joe Ingles, and he’s followed by Isaiah Hartenstein–Hartenstein’s situation was more complex, and it was about the money and roster spot that was given to John Wall. Reggie Bullock had a good career, but he was never great.

Terance is the player who scares me. It seems like he could go to another team and be a starter, score 15+ppg, and make huge contributions. And the Clippers (and Ty) always seem to move him around and slight him.

Moussa played well last night. He’s still got upside, but it seems like his shot is never going to arrive, and that’s the missing piece. He’s never going to hurt us too much or break out in any dramatic way. But good for him.

It’s simple enough to wish that TMann can be more assertive, but it always seems like he needs to take his time working up to it, which is unfortunate. I think that Dunn is more valuable and the Clippers are missing him more than is stated here. He’s problematic, of course, but he provides an important and crucial item, point of attack and disruptive defense, and the Clips need to find a rotation spot for him. What’s going on with his knee? He’s been out for a good bit of time now.

One thing I like is that DJJ has firmly established himself as the 5th starter. He’s playing really well, and has a good complementary role with the Core Four. I get the argument about Amir, and I’m wondering if he was doing better and getting more looks when Dunn was playing. The idea that KPJ replaces Dunn, Amir, and Terance when the rotation is shortened scares me quite a bit.

It’s all pretty complicated.

He’s better as somebody taking up a roster spot than PJ Tucker, but he’s not going to take minutes away from Bones (who isn’t getting any minutes) or compete with KPJ. I don’t know though. I need somebody else to explain it.

He’s insurance as a backup in case Harden misses games or gets hurt. It would have been good for him to get a bunch of the minutes that have gone to KPJ, but Ty didn’t want to do that, and KPJ has kind of improved. Mills might plug into this mix, but he’s more of a shooter–seems like a backup to Norm and Amir. I don’t know though, see what some other folks say.

I don’t know Eubanks, how he measures up against Bamba, Theis, and Plumlee–all the post-Hartenstein guys. Probably just okay. Played a lot of minutes in Portland 22-23. Didn’t do much on PHO last year. Need defense, rebounding, and some rim protection.
