Clips gotta take care of the ball though – Hornets feasting on those lazy passes and bad shots/long rebounds

In the Pacers game, Hartenstein was doing a great job switching on the perimeter to contain the guards. Then the defense completely fell apart as soon as Zubac came back in. Against the Nuggets, they already have the perfect offensive weapon with Jackson attacking Jokic on the PnR, yet Lue still stuck with Zubac’s pathetic defense just because he’s putting up numbers on offense. Ibaka was doing a great job containing Jokic yet Lue benched him again for Zubac. Ibaka would not have needed any double team that costed that game while defending Jokic at the perimeter. He is completely helpless defending guards even within 15 feet against the Spurs, or Jokic at the perimeter. Just a couple of defensive stops would have won that game if Ibaka was defending Jokic instead of Zubac. A center’s primary role is to hold down the defense and clean up defensive rebounds, and Zubac fails miserably on both counts.

It’s a big problem when you have a dumb coach continually failing to recognize that. All Clippers’ come backs happened because Zubac was not the one playing a pivotal role on defense. How about coaching to build a 20 point lead instead of digging a hole to come back from 20? Clippers fans over rate Ty Lue just because of the come backs but fails to recognize that all he accomplished was to eliminate the problem he created in the first place. The team always had to play extra hard to catch up which eventually leads to player injuries.
