They probably thought 1. Luke would ball out in Lue’s system, and 2. that his price would get driven up by the lack of quality FAs next summer. So they just paid him now, at a rate that doesn’t necessarily reflect his current contributions, knowing that the contract isn’t an albatross and could be moved in the future.

So yea, as far as I can tell, Luke’s extension is basically a repeat of the Austin contract. MM’s contract, on the other hand, is…well, I have issues w/ that one.

I mean they gave him an extension which seemed even high for the solid numbers he put up on a bad Detroit Pistons team. His role on this team no matter how great he played was going to be significantly diminished. There is no way he’d put up 16 pts a night for a Clippers team with the offensive talent they have on the roster. This is like paying Kevin Love the max based on his role on the Timberwolves. Sure you hope he’s a solid piece to the puzzle, and I’m glad to have him over Shamet, who’s been struggling mightily this season (even has a few DNP-CDs as of late).

Just seems like an overpay. Not my money, and I don’t think they’re posed to have capspace anytime soon (at least that’s the big hope), so maybe doesn’t matter too much, or even could be a good salary for a trade in the future, but I don’t think it’s good practice to make a habit of overpaying guys.

My wifi was crapping out so I only got smudged glimpses of this game, but from what I caught of the 4th it looked like Morris wilted at the absolute worst time to do so. Can anyone confirm that? I worry he’s still a tad injured as he seems to be a three point specialist ONLY these days, whereas historically he’s done a little more of everything. Maybe I’m not giving him a fair shake but that’s what my eyes have recorded.

It can be a very ugly brand of basketball, but not unlike a lot of irrational confidence guys in the league who have had pretty successful careers (ie. JR Smith, Nate Robinson, Jason Terry, etc.). You have to take the bad with the good, but I always thought he’s a rotation NBA player. Sure maybe not the kind of guy you want to see getting big minutes on a championship roster, but I think throw him back on Detroit and he’d be putting up a pretty consistent 15pts a night.
