I’m not sure I agree that he can’t guard on the perimeter, but if he can’t, he’s not an NBA player.

Essentially the current player we have rostered who’s game has deteriorated to a point of most epitomizing dumpster juice… and a future (not lotto) 1st rd pic? Seems too good to be true…no?

Would it be totally nuts for us to dump Morris and a 1st and take him back? Not sure we’re guaranteed to get that good a return on a future 1st and Herro, Terance, Hyland, Martin and Zu would be a nice young core for the next iteration. He’s only 23

But he also needed to move because Chris was coming in to start over him (and you weren’t gonna start CP3, Pat, and Harden all together), and Houston didn’t have the expendable contracts that we do–they NEEDED to include Beverley for the math to work.

Norm has higher value than Lou did at the time–I know that sounds wrong because of how great Lou was for us, but go look at his stats with the Lakers and Rockets leading up to that moment. I will admit that I didn’t even want the Clippers to keep him after the trade. Trez I think was at best sweetener a la throwing in Brandon Boston. Dekker maybe comparable in value to Amir (he turned into nothing for us but I remember at the time thinking he had upside for us). We did get a 1st.

You could maybe talk me into him as a 2nd string min guy in a certain context (think Lob City when we were constantly scrounging for acceptable 12 mpg bench guys) but with how much depth there is for little guards in a league where most teams only play 1 little guard, he’s a 3rd stringer. I don’t think there’s been any point in the last two years where I didn’t know he was better than Preston right now, the question has always been how much right now matters for a role that sees virtually 0 meaningful minutes.

Legit scorer whose defense won’t be as much of an issue with Embiid and Tobias playing behind him and Maxey at the point. A lot of what Embiid needs is an alpha dog on the other side of the floor who can win his matchups and score in bunches for certain stretches of the game. I would take that trade package if I were Philly. I know that Nurse is telling Morey to take that package b/c he loves Norm and I think you could see Norm have a career year with Nurse at the helm as coach. Take Powell, Morris, Coffey, Moussa or Preston + a 2nd round pick. Philly gets 2 rotation players + Morris and 2 younger players w/upside + a pick.

That would follow the model of the Clips trade of CP3. We got 3 quality rotation players out of that deal, no stars, but we built an identity post lob city. Philly is in a better spot b/c they already have Embiid, the reigning MVP and Maxey + Tobias, both of whom are 2nd/3rd team all NBA capable.

Best the Clips can do is to convince Morey that we’ll be fine with or without James. Of course Morey may be thinking that the longer he stalls, the greater chance James will have an about face. Interesting dynamics at play and you have to think that any real decision on this will come from the very top of the sixer brass and not necessarily Morey alone.

There were no picks, top-line starters or breakout youngsters in that deal. LAC did not have the leverage to get anything exciting.

Now, the trade ended up being pretty good for the Clips. PatBev, Lou Will and Trezz: all players who Houston was not in love with, but were extremely effective for the Clips. So a good deal. We also got Sam Dekker (stayed one year) and two salary filler guys who didn’t make it out of training camp (can’t remember their names). So it really was a pupu platter … that had a couple of yummy pupus.

It may be less exciting to give the job (even as a 2-way) to him compared to a young-un. But he’s already shown that his skills translate beyond SL.
