We won the Laker game b/c we got our first real peak at what this starting 5 looks like with a functional Kawhi Leonard. It looks as good as the best starting lineups of the Lob City era. You may recall that the Clips’ Lob City starting 5 was one of the most productive in the league over a couple of seasons. Our bench units were trash (thanks, GM Doc!).

The starting 5 has 4 guys who are elite scorers at their positions with a 5th guy who is very efficient dunking the ball, can play D, and when he has that 3 ball falling it’s an impossible unit to guard.

Our bench rotation vs the Lakers was trash, however. Lebron abused everyone on that unit. It was thin because Terance Mann didn’t play a minute. As a result, Harden played too many minutes and that basically drained him for the Chicago game. He did not play well vs Chicago, but that I put on Lue. The starting lineup vs Chicago was weak. Bulls had capable scorers in LaVine, Lonzo and Vucevic and we had dead spots in that lineup with Dunn, DJJ, a tired Harden and a limited Bamba.

If the Clips were serious about winning that game, the starting lineup should’ve been Harden, Mann, Norm, DJJ and Batum with Bamba, Bones, Coffey, KPJ, Kobe Brown and Dunn off the bench. KPJ should’ve played off the ball with Bones running the point.

I’m not sure what Dunn has done over the past 2 games, but it feels like a sharp regression. I’ve been on the Mann bandwagon for a long while, but these last few games should be proof positive that he’s more playoff ready than the rest of that bench unit and he knows how to play with star players better or how to fill the rotational wing role off the bench.

Now the Clips seem to be throwing the Boston game in order to get a W vs the Wizards. After that the Clips have Milwaukee (Giannis always curb stomps us), @Phx, @SAS, @ Charlotte to close the month. I don’t consider that easy, but the games are spaced out reasonably well.

I have dinner plans tomorrow night anyway lol.

Harden is a one-of-a-kind player, and when he’s off the floor, LAC needs to play differently. Denver doesn’t have or need a second Jokic (etc, etc). And they played to two together in this game anyway. If we need back-up PG duties, perhaps Bones would be better at avoiding the wasted possessions that KPJ provides (not much better, but marginally so).

And my grandma was pretty unreal, but TBH could not dunk. After a hip replacement at 95, she danced at her 100th B-day. So pretty much an icon of resiliency and exceeding expectations.

For real though, pretending KPJ doesn’t provide anything is disingenuous. His problem for us this whole season has been consistency, and unfortunately I suspect that isn’t gonna change anytime soon. If we were picking young guys to develop, I would rather see Miller and Kobe get more time, but I get why Ty is playing KPJ – he’s the only one on the team who can do a (poor) Harden impression. I mean I don’t like it, but I get it.

This was so obviously a game to unleash Mann and Coffey but oh well. Lue just seems to stop coaching when kawhi comes back

No one would even take him for a long-term salary dump because he has a player option. Nobody dumping a 2-3 million long-term player anyway.

Norm and Harden were gassed. The game was within reach until Ty took out Mann and put in Harden to immediately turn the ball over and miss shots. Harden was cooked. There was absolutely 0 reason to put him back in the game after the 3rd.

Started players with limited offensive abilities. And it showed: they shot 29% in the first quarter and started 1-8. Should have started either Coffey or Mann just to get better balance.

KPJ was terrible (as usual). HIs only made basket was a breakaway dunk that my grandma could have made. At this point the trade suggestions involving him and Tucker are useless. KPJ is a negative value asset, and only teams who truly want to dump long-term salaries would be interested.

2nd apron teams make its hard to move big contract players now.
It’s really hard to pay $50M for someone who doesn’t play , but hey – look at the Sixers lol.
